O.K. So I have used the search function to try and find an answer to this but no one seems to answer the question directly. I am trying to use Recode to get several DVD-9's to DVD-5's. I have done this many times before with Nero 7. Recently I upgraded to Nero 8.3.2.1 with related version of Recode. The discs have been ripped using DVDFab decrypter Platinum 5.0.2.0. When I try to recode it gives me the out of memory error about 1/2-3/4 of the way through. If I watch Windows Task Manager during the process I can see the Mem Usage of Recode slowly climb to more than 1.5GB then I get the message. I have tried to perform this operation with AnyDVD HD 6.4.2.3 running in the background and get the same message. I know Recode is memory intensive but it never used to use up all of my onboard memory, maybe 100-200MB.

EDIT: I also increased the virtual page file size and ripped the movie with AnyDVD. BTW AnyDVD shows all protection removed in the info window. Still getting same result as above.

I am running XP, have more than 1 TB of HD space, 3.5GB of onboard memory and an AMD dual core proc running at 3.12GHz.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is short of re-installing Nero 7? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Here is the Log File:

make sure you have the latest version dvdfab ripper...

you may need to run the ripped dvd on your hard drive through fixvts or vobblanker as the movie may have more protection than the rippers can cope with, hence giving recode a hard time

tried dvd shrink? its made by same person and dvd shrink gives better quailty than recode. it allows maximum smooth i think the setting is, recode didnt get that feature!

and back the output size to 4300meg also.

I do thank you for your input and suggestions. As I mentioned in my original post i could not find an answer to the original question, which I am not the first to post. There are many alternatives to recode given but no thoughts as to why it's screwed up.

I am running 5.0.2.2 DVDFab now, which is the latest. DVDShrink works fine although it consumes more than 500+MB while working, which seems higher than what I've seen in the past with DVDShrink. This would seem to suggest the copy protection is removed. I could also just copy the movies to 2 DVD 5's with DVDFab without any compression. What I would love to know however is what is the problem with Recode? The movie log posted is only an example, all of the DVDs that I have tried since upgrading Nero have met the same fate.

kool, glad dvd shrink worked ok

no idea with recode but see alot of unhappy people with nero v8.3.2.1 on various reasons... v8 it a massive bloatware im still on v8.0.1.0 or something first retail version. 1gig installs 4 gig of siftware, hmmm? v6 (the best version) was 30meg (go figure........)

i only use nero for mp3 to cda, although i have alot better app installed i could use, so dont really need it at all.

i would run those 2 parts of dvd trhough fixvts or vobblanker and try again just to see if it does have extra copy protection in vobs etc...

Rotary, Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to update DVDFAb, for the second time this past week! You're right about Nero, I think I'll stick with shrink. I'm still very curious though.
