I recently used Nero Recode2 (v 2.2.6.17), which came in an OEM bundle with Nero Express6 for Memorex, to recode some Quicktime .mov files to Nero Digital AVC format. The resulting files were playable with QT and with Windows Media Player 11. I believe that WMP was using the Nero AVC codec. Today I tried to convert some more QT movies to AVC and find that the facility has disappeared from Recode2 and furthermore, WMP can't play the files I created earlier. But QT still can play them. I did not get any errors that said it had expired. The options for the AVC encoding have just disappeared from the standard encoding profiles offered by Recode2. Is the AVC codec time limited? --Larry
It's been over a month with no replies so I guess no one knows about this. Oh well.... When I tried playing the AVC encoded files on WMP 11 it flashed a message that it had acquired a codec and it played the file but only with sound -- no video. Not good enough yet. QuickTime still plays the AVC file fine though. --Larry
I was looking at a description of Nero 7 Ultimate Enhanced (or some such long title) and it said it has a 30-day trial of the AVC encoder. I guess that's a pretty good hint that the encoder I had was time limited also. --Larry
