    Hello all,
I need some recommendation regarding a new CD burner which I wish to buy. I have not bought one since June 2001, so I assume MUCH has changed in the field of burning hardware and burning protections.
I would like to know which burner can override the latest protections using burning programs such as CloneCD or another program if you would suggest.

    Thanks in advance.

Purchase a Sony or Mitsubishi or Samsung - have used many of these and never had a fault ever - pick of the 3 would be sony - try a sony DVD Multi burner for approx. $200.00 AUD its worth the effort.
    Burns: DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD+RW CDR CDRW
    Plays: DVD & CD's

Since your top priority is burning protected games I have three to recommend:

    1) Plextor Premium - outstanding drive that's particularly good at SecuRom when paired with BlindWrite5. Around 80 bucks.

    2) Lite On 52327S - well known and able protection buster. Around 35 bucks.

    3) Asus CRW 5232AS - recommended by Praetor since some of the newer protections target the Lite On drives because of their popularity. Around 35 bucks.

Be aware if you decide on a DVD writer there are only a handful capable of writing protections correctly - Lite On models 401/411/811 and the Plextor PX-708A. As far as I know all others are incapable of backing up games.

    Hope this helps :)

    This specific Asus model only?
I cannot seem to find it ...

Anyway, I think I will go for the LiteOn eventually if I cannot find the Asus.

    Thanks all the same.

You can also grab the ASUS522452A (the model I have).... there's virtually no difference since 32X RW media is not (widely) available.

The ASUS drive will be a tad harder to find since it is more of a premium-type part (although the price will not agree, i bought my drives for $59 CAD last year).

The Plextor Premium(52/32/52x) The Plex Premium can backup newer SecuROM pc game titles, the newer Asus burners can't. The Plex Premium is conisidered by many experts "the best all in one burner."(hands down)The Plex Premium can write Varirec, a special write feature to backup SecuROM(Sony DAC) pc protection.
