I'm looking for a way to backup my DVD's. As buying a DVD writer isn't a cheap thing to do, I'm trying to get opinions and experience with DVD writers. What writer is the recommended one to go for, as far as price, reliability and compatibility is concerned. Anyone heard of/use the Pioneer DVR-104 ?

I have a Sony DRU500A, since December02, on a P4 system with Windows XP....no problems. costs=$350 (or less). Burns +/-R,+/-RW. Firmware update will convert to 4x burns. Very satisfied, would buy the same unit again.
