Recorded Disc shows as "Unknown Disc Type"

    Hi there. I've been recording on discs (both DVD-R & DVD-RW) using my Phillips DVD recorder. It works great but sometimes after I've recorded something the disc will not play. I recorded something the other day and now when I go to play it my recorder says it's an Unknown Disc Type. I'm playing this recorded disc in the same DVD player it was recorded on. Now this disc will not play in anything else because it wasn't closed. This only happens once in a while. Any clues as to why this happens?

    Is your "Phillips DVD recorder" a standalone unit ?
    If so, call Philips. Perhaps there's a firmware update.
