recording by surviellance firm

    I received two discs from an Insurance Firm(obtained by data act)one played fine the other on windows media player would not play.The Insurance company sent me a link to download software from a surviellance firm but I have refused to do that.They explain themselves below:
    The software would have been on the original disk sent to you.
    The link is simply another way of obtaining the software in case the
    original version didnt work.

    I am not at all happy the act says material should be capable of being understood by the average person.Am I being too cautious.THE LINK WAS:

    If the files are in a proprietary format, you need their software to view it.
