I found by recording directly to DVD-R with the LVW 5005 can be sketchy. A few times I have had problems playing the DVD-R (after finalizing) on other DVD players. This can be a problem with wasting DVD-R discs. I use the Ritek G04 discs and have no problem with them on my PC/Plextor PX-708A DVD burner. So what I do is record on the LVW 5005 using a DVD-RW Disc and rip it to the PC with DVD Decrypter. I then use Nero Recode or DVD Shrink. Since most of the recording/backup I am doing is from VHS, I remove the menu made by the LVW 5005. I will re-rip it and burn it to DVD-R using my Plextor DVD burner. I am guaranteed a play-back all the time on any DVD player using this method. This may take more time but, I like the video quality made by the LVW 5005. I was using my ATI capture card along with the CopyThis macrovision bypass device but, that takes just as long to capture and author to DVD. I use the hacked firmware on the LVW 5005.
... I have found that the +R discs that my LVW-5005 burns are playable in more machines than the -R discs ... The same goes for the +RW as opposed to the -RW ...
My LVW 5006 records good on a DVD+R/+RW/-R & plays everywhere. My only problem is that it takes to damn long to finalize a DVD-RW....so i don't use DVD-RW on my 5006. I use them on my Pioneer 220-s. I read on another thread or forum that the LVW 5006 has a mono tuner, Is it true?
So are you telling me that the Liteon LVW 5045 is also mono? cause if it is i'm gonna ship it back as soon as it gets here. i don't need a another mono dvd recorder.
The tuner on the LVW 5005 is mono and the video looks too bright, crappy if you ask me. I have had problems tuning in the local cable channels with LVW 5005 tuner also. I use my VCR's tuner going into the rear input of the LVW 5005. I record VHS and cable programs this way. As far as finalizing DVD-RW dics, you shouldn't use them that way because you are wasting them. Use DVD-/+R disc. I use them for testing and temporary storage. I rip it into my PC hard drive the RW and then burn it to DVD-R. RW's are reusable. I'm not sure about the other models having mono tuners.
