I posted a thread yesterday, didn't show up.
It seems that if the program is longer than two hours it will not record to DVD, if it is two hours in length it will record to DVD.
In setup I changed LP to SP it made no difference.

    Anyone have anything on this.

I have the Accurian 3223 It is the same as my Liteon/ilo units. The remote is the same as the ilo RHD04 and Liteon 5045

You can record to the HDD at any setting. HQ- 1hr , SP- 2hr, LP- 3hr, EP- 4hr, (etc)

If to a disk, the recording must be within the capacity of the disk for the time set (ie) If the program is 21/2 hours, the setting must be LP and so on
However If you are recording to the HDD at LP and the recording is 31/2 hr long.
It will not dub to a disk unless you split at least ½ hr from the HDD recording.
In the 3223 this would be your only option unless you re-recorded it at the proper speed for the disk capacity
This would be a restriction of all recorders but some might handle the issue better.
If not this I should think there is a problem with the unit but I don’t think so.

Are you sure that the unit is changed from SP to LP there are times when such a change does not take place

On occasion I have recorded a program longer than 2hr to the HDD in SP, thinking that when the commercials are edited out the program will be within the disk capacity for SP.
Wrong, and I was forced to re-record it

Well looks like the only way around this is to record to DVD first they if you want to save it to Hard Drive it doesn't matter the length.Sense it doesn't ask you the question what mode you want to copy to DVD.If it did this problem would be solved.

So from now on I will record to DVD RWs for the length required, and copy to Hard drive if I want to save it there.

In setup what did you mean sometimes doesn't take. If it was on LP in setup would the copy mode copy the 2 1/2 program as an LP and fit the program? I dought it but it's worth the question.

    No I wouldn;t do that

Copy to the HDD and transfer to disk if you want to keep it and the recording is to be used on other units.

If a one time recording, sure copy to a RW disk and than erase it I do this often . Other than that I would copy to the HDD and it can be edited, if necessary, and than copied to the DVD
Make use of the HDD, as this is a feature that is disappearing in the US market

Just make sure that the Program on the HDD has been recorded or is edited so the finished program on the HDD is within the capacity of the disk.

If the program on the HDD is in SP it must be no longer than 2 hr. If it is in LP it can’t be more than 3hr (etc)
Actually a program at SP of some 2hr- 4min will fit on many disks. At LP they may be 3hr- 3min.

What I meant by [doesn’t take]
Sometimes [because of the manor done] an operator believes the recording mode has been changed, when actually it was not and could be called operator error. This was reaching and I don’t feel its any problem in rhis case

It seems that there may be a miss understanding in the use of the HDD and disk capacity when transferring from HDD to DVD disk
I hope I’ve explained it but if there were an area unclear I would be glad to cover it with you
I have the Accurian manual and could go over it with you

    A note
The Accurian 3223 is a Liteon clone and is basically the same as a Liteon 5045 with a 80gb HDD instead of a 160gb, It cannot be hacked and is compliant by this I mean if copy protection [CP] is present on a program, the unit might not record it. This could be a flag that would not allow a copy to the HDD or disk. It could allow a copy to the HDD but not to a DVD disk This is pretty much the same in all present DVD recorders

Thanks for the help, I've figured out what to do.
Could you explain this, I bought a movie and was able to record to Hard drive. I rented a movie it said it was protected. I have another DVD player and recorded from the back 3223input. First off I have no intention of making copies it was a really good movie I wanted to rewatch if maybe a time or two.

As said the Accurian 3223 does not record or copy CP media.
If the movie you bought was played on the Accurian DVD {not the other player} and it recorded, The program {disk} was most likely, {Not} Copy protected

    Do I understand?
The rented movie was CP protected but you were able to record it to the Accurian HDD by using another DVD player to play the disk, that was connected to the Input of the Accurian 3223
[rear or front would make no difference]

Can you now dub the program on the HDD to a disk in the Accurian?
Can you tell me what Make and Model player was used. There are some older units that will do, as it seems you have

I could not record the movie via the Phillips DVD player.

To me there's few movies worth seeing again. This one was De ja vu not sure of the spelling but I thought it was one of them.

I learn how to work something by playing with it, not good at reading direction, and undestanding them. Now it's time to play with editing.

    I'll get it figured out.
