DVD recorders with or without VHS combos state you can't duplicate copyright media. Might be possible, but I have never even tried.

If you need to backup a DVD that you own, just use one of the many software packages discusssed on these forums. Some are free. Many guides are listed. Burners (for use on a computer) are reasonable at Newegg (for example).

Using for example a Sima Pro-Series Color Corrector between your DVD player and recorder removes the copyright protection.

It does not advertised that but it works.
I mentioned this one because it's what I use.

    Hey there.
I have a similiar question regarding backing up content.
I have Sky Perfect TV (Satellite TV) here in Japan and a Toshiba AK-G300 HDD/Dvd recorder which is getting pretty full..
I want to back up some programs I have recorded but I am getting a "Copy Protection" message when I try to back up to DVD,the programs are scrambled with copy protection and cannot be transferred from HDD to DVD..
    Any suggestions?

    Cheers
