i made a paperweight and i am looking to recover it without modchips. so dont waist your time telling me i need one. i updated the dash to the wrong version like 6 months ago and left it from there. i have built this reader(http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/357863) about 4 times now and i have the wires hooked up correctly(srry about poor quality pics)i have tried with internal and external power and i have tried connected straight to the eeprom and to the LPC pin headers. if i probe with pony prog it says test ok. i have used pony prog and pony prog 2000 and the best i come up with i this the reader ask if more info is needed

It is what i have. i remade it a few times so i got how to make it. ive got the zeners and resistors in the right way to.
Ok, well if the reader itself is correct, maybe you have the serial solder points wrong (The bit that connects to the PC)?
