Ok started computer and see shortcuts for adaware/spyware programs that I didn't install, trash those but they come back. The desktop picture has changed to a red biohazard sign that says "Your privacy is in danger! Download privacy protection software now." Also keep getting false error messages telling me to download/scan my computer when I close the popup a new window pops up and goes to a scan site on the internet. The messages mention 'trojan.w32.looksky.' Also webroot detects 'REGSVR32.EXE' is attempting to install 'mxduo.dll' Scanned my computer with avast, Ad-aware SE heres the HJT log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 6:31:55 PM, on 8/28/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\windows\System32\smss.exe C:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe C:\windows\system32\services.exe C:\windows\system32\lsass.exe C:\windows\system32\svchost.exe C:\windows\System32\svchost.exe C:\windows\Explorer.EXE C:\windows\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPoint\SetPoint.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\khalshared\KHALMNPR.EXE C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe C:\windows\system32\nvsvc32.exe C:\windows\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\WRSSSDK.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe C:\windows\system32\wscntfy.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe C:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe C:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe C:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe C:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://us.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ycomp_adbe/defaults/sb/*http://www.yahoo.com/search/ie.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://us.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ycomp_adbe/defaults/sp/*http://www.yahoo.com R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://google.com/ O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpySweeper] "C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe" /startintray O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Logitech Hardware Abstraction Layer] KHALMNPR.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PRISMSVR.EXE] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\PRISMSVR.EXE" /APPLY O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [updateMgr] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AdobeUpdateManager.exe" AcRdB7_0_8 O4 - Global Startup: Logitech SetPoint.lnk = ? I would recommend downloading and installing a-squared anti-malware. It is a terrific tool at locating and removing some of the tougher malware out there. Download it here.Also I do know/believe from your description that your computer is infected, but your HijackThis log isn't showing anything. So first download, install, run, and update a-squared and remove everything it finds. Then rename HijackThis.exe to ABCD.exe and then reboot into Safe Mode. Once in safe mode post a new HijackThis log and run all the antispyware apps you have along with your antivirus and remove everything every program finds.
Ok I think I got rid of it. I figured out by accident that the red destop picture could be resized by dragging it from the left side then going to the top of the screen with the mouse and a close option shows up. A-squared got rid of ~30 items not detected by ad-aware. Went to safe mode and ran smitfraudfix and it got rid of ~5 dlls and scanned with A-squared again and nothing came up.
