Reduced privelages but still OK in safe mode

I can't install software using the admin id. I can in the safe mode. Obviously something nasty is going on in the normal mode.

In normal mode Hijack was not allowed to read the hoast files.

wow,lot of file missing entries there.any questionable sites visited?any software downloads,or anything else out of the ordinary?nothing on a virus scan or malwarebytes scan?let me know and ill do some digging.Al.

 

I threw a dozen apps at it. It is some kind of root kit but the root kit detectors are stumped. I am no idea and do not care where they got it. If I were to guess, it was face book or maybe a game site. The mode of operation is a mouse over initiates a scan of your computer then a Trojan is put into your auto update box looking like an real update but it has a barb. It gets installed the next time the computer starts up.

 

in that case i dont think hjt is going to help.ive had good luck using a program called blacklite for rootkits.also trend micro has one that has very good reviews.gamesites eh?i feel for you they are the bane of my existance in this household.try the rootkit programes and see if it helps.if not it may be a job for combofix.let me know if the rootkit removers work.AL

 

I had a friend with a similar problem. They were unable to install any programs to remove the malware. I sent them the program to their e-mail and it was able to install it and remove the problem.I'm not sure if that will help you or not.

 

yeah either that or download from another machine to a usb stick and try it that way.

 

was also thinking mez,since this is this windows 7 we are talking about,i know when i try to run hijack this it wont read host files unless i run it as administrator.

 

I can install in safe mode. Thanks for that info on host files.

I ran a few top rated scanners. The computer might be clean. I had to quarantine her user that she browsed with. She never browsed with the admin accnt.

 

good.if its still buggy i would maybe try sfc/scannow to make sure all the origional operating system files are there and where they should be.i say this because of your hijack this log.there were a lot of missing files.whatever you had may have messed you up there.couldnt hurt.
