So I have a DVD I'm trying to rip as a Divx file. I'm trying to get it to be 320x240. I'm using Xilisoft DVD Ripper Premium. When I burn it without changing the resolution, I get a file that has a resolution of 720x576.

However, if I change it to 320x240, and rip the DVD, the quality is very low.

Is it possible to lower the resolution without lowering the quality? I mean, I am no expert, but it's clear that the quality is considerably lowered when I change the resolution.

    Thanks.

You are looking at like %20 the resolution. Of course the quality is going to go down. Only time it wouldn't would be playing back on a small screen where you couldn't tell the difference.

Think of your desktop. If you were to download 2 wall papers. One at the native resolution of your screen (say 1280x768), the other a thumbnail (say 175x175). The thumbnail blown up is going to look much worse.
