I am looking for a simple, very basic, freeware program that will allow me to slow down the speed of motion clips that I use as backgrounds for lyric presentations at church. Most of the clips are way too fast for comfort. This is the only function that I need, so I'm hoping to stay away from huge programs with a lot of functions that I don't need. I use Windows 7. I have Windows Movie Maker which is supposed to allow you to slow down video, but I cannot find any function button in "Effects" that will let me do that. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
If you slow it down, the audio will lose sync - but you can do it anyway using VirtualDub. Assuming the source is an avi file, drag it into VirtualDub: Click 'Video' > 'Direct Stream Copy' Click 'Video' > 'Frame Rate' Change the frame rate on the top field and convert it to the original on the lower. In this clip the current rate of the original is 25fps, I changed it to 20fps (20% slower?) then set it back to 25fps in the lower field. Click 'Audio > 'No audio' - it will be out of sync otherwise. Click 'File' > 'Save as avi'. edited to add image.
Thank you so much for your suggestion. Most of the video files I work with are not AVI and I was unable to get VideoDub to work with flv files. I should have mentioned that in my initial post. However, I have discovered Any Video Converter, which allows one to convert the video files into different formats, as well as reduce the speed. It is a freeware program and extremely simple to use. Again, many thanks for your assistance. I hope someone else may benefit from these posts.
I have not found any other option to reduce the speed in Any Video Converter except changing the frame rate. I have very little experience with video editing but someone else may be able to help you.
My sincere apologies to anyone I may have inconvenienced with incorrect information. The program I found that makes it very easy to reduce speed in videos is SuperDVD Video Editor, not Any Video Converter. SuperDVD is freeware. Again, I am sorry if I caused problems for anyone
