hey guys, sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but i'm new to all of this. Firstly i got sweeney todd movie, but it is a "reencoded xvid ac3.avi" and i can't play it in anything i have on my macbook, even with newest xvid and dvix codecs, plz help, all i wanna do is watch it, not put on dvd or anything complicated. Please can you recommend a program or player i can use.

    Thanks

VLC player will handle that. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

open the file with it and even if it doesn't seem to play go to the player menus.. View>stream and media info>advanced .. and it will tell you the codec and file info which helps to find what codecs you may need. (or if the uploader has been less than honest about the type).

Are you sure you have the codec properly installed?

I have exactly the same problem as the guy that posted the original item (same movie and all). The only differences are that im using windows and I downloaded the videolan program and it doesnt work. I went through the thing with the advanced options, but it just was blank.

Ok, now the advanced options thing is showing up and its saying the codecs are MPGA for streams 0, 1 and 4 and MPGV for the other two streams. Its really annoying me casue I thought those where mpeg file tpes?
