reformating

    Anyone wanna help me out. i've reformated before but that was a LONG time ago. I just want to kno, do i only need the windows disk to reformat my harddrive completely or do i also need some other disk?

    can use just the windows cd. i use a straight win98 boot disk to fdisk & format the drives even for xp.

    does formatting completely and utterly delete everything on the hard drive and make it unrecoverable.

    In a word...Yes. Essentially all your data will be gone. There will be traces, but unless you are hiding stuff from the FBI/MI6 then you will be fine with the results.

    if do fdisk & format or delete partition, make a partition & format than info is basically gone unless use a data recovery program. the ontrack data recovery program i have will recover info off a formated hd.

    ok my bad. i thought that my computer had a floppy drive but it doesnt. so can one of you give me a detailed way to reformat and reintall XP without a floppydisk please, i only have the windows XP cd. i think i just need to set the bios boot to CD-ROM but im not completely sure. my e-mail address is i'manidiot.com edited by ddp, you can either send it to me through that or just post here. thanks guys.
