I was just wondering if it was possible to get region 2 dvd's converted to region 1. My boss gave me some region 2 dvds he bought a while back and I'm trying to back them up onto dvd-r media but I need them in region 1.
It is possible, but a few things to condider: Some region 2 dvds are pal format while region 1 are ntsc format. You want to make sure those discs your boss gave you are ntsc format. If they are pal format, they will have to be converted to ntsc. Your drive will ask you if you want to change the region to region 2.You can only switch it about 5 times..You can change it to region 2,do all those region 2 backups and then switch back to region 1..Depending on your dvd-rw model#,there may be a hacked firmware to make that drive region free. It's risky, but is a last resort option. Last,You can also use a program called anydvd by slysoft. It is a background ripper. It is also said to make your dvd-rw drive region free. I haven't had the opportunity to rip a disc other than region 1.There's a free trial in the software tab under dvd rippers. If they are NTSC format, just download the free trial of anydvd/leave it activated-a little red fox icon will be in the lower utility tray/rip with dvd shrink/set backups as region free/and burn with dvd decrypter/nero/or copytodvd. Good Luck
