I am in Australia Region 4. The is a dvd "medicine man" which is not released here in australia (region 4) but I can get an american copy (region 1) Is there any way to copy this so it will play on Region 4 players. And if so, will I be able to read the dvd in my computer to do the conversion?
You should be able to switch regions on your dvd-rw drive.A message will pop up asking you to change regions. You can only do it 4-5 times, but on the last change-it'll stay at that region. There's also hacked firmware out there to make a drive region free. Anydvd by slysoft will make your burner region free. They've got a 21 day free trial, and very helpful with dvd shrink ripping the newer encryptions. Dvd shrink will allow you to set your backups region free, then they should play just about anywhere. No need to set your backups to region 4. I used anydvd for some japanese flicks, and set the backups as region free. Being an older title, dvd shrink should have no trouble ripping it,unless it's a badly scratched disc. Hopefully your original copy will be in pretty decent shape. There's another thing to watch out for. USA is region 1,and NTSC format. Some countries-mostly Europe-use PAL format.
I've never done that. I've seen lots of posts about that conversion here at AD.I'm not sure of what programs to use. Try the search function, you may get lucky?
