search for hacks for your playback DVD player. You should be able to set the region to 0 which will make it region free.
Like theridges said either put it through shrink or use anydvd from slysoft. You also have to remember that the TV and DVD player in India will both have to accept an NTSC signal to play the movie.

You can set up DVD Shrink to provide no compression on your backup and as pazzini stated you need to make sure that your DVD player will support NTSC, Nero will/can convert to PAL if necessary.
