I don't know if I'm posting this in rigth place or not but if I'm not then I'm sorry, but I need a good registry clean, I think someone might have the same thread at this but I'm not sure, anyway I wanted to ask people for their oppoion to see which registry cleaner I should get/use. I recently use Regcure as a registry cleaner, it was working fine until today. I not sure is it the program that mess up my computer or is it that I was uninstall some stuff but after I ran and clean my computer with regcure my computer won't load to the window after I turn my computer back on. I want opponion with people who have long term experience with that software.

I just did a little research on the RegCure that you are referring to. To be honest with you, cleaning your registry can be very dangerous. You should always have a backup of your registry before you clean it. I have found a fantastic program for this: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

These are both free programs and are very valuable. The registry backup that comes with you OS is very lacking. ERUNT will back up your registry every time you start your machine and save the backups in a file on your C drive. Then if you have a problem like you are having now you can replace your registry to the way it was before.

I personally like XoftSpySE. http://www.paretologic.com/xoftspy/se/newlp/xray/?uid=m6982 It has been around awhile and is great at cleaning your registry. There are also some other programs that are good to run and free. You can find them all at http://www.download.com

    Ad-Aware 2007 (Lavasoft)
    A-Aquared Free
    Spybot Search & Destroy
    CCleaner
    CWShredder

Now if you are having a problem loading your Windows then we may need to do a FDISK/mbr to restore your master boot record. This is one reason that you do not want to run registry cleaners too often. As long as you have a backup of your registry then you should be alright.

Try to boot into safe mode by pressing F8 repeatedly when the computer is starting. Then run a system restore and see if that will allow you to log back into Windows. Let me know how it goes.

Darm if only I waited for a couple of day longer, I fix my problem with the restore cd that came with my computer. but thank you I will try to do that if that happen to me again.

As for the registry program I wanted something that is simple and easy to use, to be honest I'm a novice in the computer industry (sine my brother didn't let me use the computer and I didn't get my own into later on)

    chloett11-
Now that you have your machine up and running again go ahead and install the programs that I mentioned. As the others have said, CCleaner is a good tool, along with the others that I mentioned. In fact most of your firewall, AV, and Ad-Aware programs can be free programs. The only problem is that different programs search for different things, so you really need to run all of them to insure that your machine is clean and stays clean.

I will post some links for you to download reliable free solutions for home computer needs.

    Ad-Aware 2007 Link
    A-Squared 3 Link
    Spybot Search & Destroy Link
    RootkitBuster Link
    COMODO Firewall Link
    AVG Free Link

There is other free software as well, but these should get you off to a good start. Remember that the rule of thumb is to not re-install you OS until you try to get it fixed. Just a heads up for the future.

    Edit: Forgot one!! CCleaner Link

I forgot to add this to my earlier post... here's another great app, it's free, and does all sorts of good stuff for your PC: reg clean, virus/spyware scan, web site immunization against known malicious sites, temp file cleaning, and more! Definitely worth looking at!

Definately CCleaner & Registry Mechanic. Also might pay to trial some anti-virus and spyware software. Restore your computer back to last good config also.

    Anti-Virus
    Bitdefender
    PC-Cillin
    Spyware
    Counterspy
    Spysweeper
    Trend Micro

I use Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 & have found it to be damm good, its not the cheapest but they do updates etc much faster than the competition. I also use Driver Genius Pro & Lavasoft Ad-Aware personnal.

I used Registry Rescue, it scan, removes, and repairs invalid entries, references and links in your Windows registry. Errors in your registry, and stuff left behind by other programs in your registry are one of the main causes of system slow down, computer crashes and lockups, also a potential privacy threats. By repairing errors in the registry your system's performance will be visibly increased.

Yes I recommend Registry Mechanic also.
    http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/
I have been using this for 2 years or so and never had a problem with it.

Someone mentioned CCleaner. I don't think that can fix the windows registry thats actually for deleting hidden files.

    From CCleaner home page:
I'm not saying that Registry Mechanic is not a better program, but CCleaner is free. It does search and remove old and unused entries. CCleaner in a combination with Spybot make a pretty good team. Once your registry is clean using a registry backup system other than the one Windows offers such as ERUNT is a good idea. I can get and keep a system clean using a combination of free programs.

Just be careful with CCleaner, I use it too, but with caution. CCleaner may overkill some time, just remember to backup.

If you are looking for some better options, Try registry easy, you can find more information here : Registry Easy Review

My experience with Regcure is so far so good, if you are not sure if Regcure cause problem to your computer, just restore all the fixes and try again.

Also Regcure is from Pareto Logic, same company of XoftSpySE.

I use Registry Repair Pro and Registry Mechanic. Then follow up with Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE. The Ad-Aware SE is freeware.

Strange thing is, I can run either of the two Registry repair programs, then run the other. The second will always find stuff that the other will not. I have never had a problem with XP using them.
There is a program that comes with Registry Repair Pro called Windows clean up. It is overkill. You might lose all your Favorites and some passwords you forgot to write down.
When I went to put in the new year of Norton Security, it would not load on my wife's computer. I had to install the Registry Repair and Mechanic and Ad-Aware to her computer. It had 47 boogies on Ad Aware, and 950 wrong stuff that the Repair and Mechanic took out. After that, the Norton was sucked right in and was working.
I run all the programs and do a defrag on all the drives once a week on my computer. The wife only uses hers a few times a month, but I go in once a month and do a clean and check for up-dates. Especially Norton up-dates. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but I had to quit McAfee because it and Ad-Aware could not exist in the same computer together. No trouble with Norton.

I have use Regcure for some time, up until now no problem. If you encounter any problem, you can restore your repair and everything should be OK.

If you want better Registry Cleaner, I would recommend Registry Easy.
