I have a t.v. that says it is HD. My direct tv is not the hd box. Is there an add on that will convert the regular signal to a HD signal?

I cant see paying the $400. or so for a new box from Direct tv.

    Thank You

i had the same problem with direct tv. they want a arm and a leg for the hd box... and there is no upconverter that i know of. depending on what part of the country (im assuming the us) check with your other tv providers ie dish network, and your local cable provider (mine is comcast) sometimes if you know the compitions offers, you can force direct tv to give you the free upgrade by threating to switch companys. or in my case comcast "bought" my direct tv equipment from me and gave me a huge discount on my bill and 3 free hd dvr boxes and the monthly bill went down.

Thanks, I like the NFL too much to go back to comcast, but I'll try to get Direct tv to upgrade me. They are always telling me how much they love me. NFL, NBA, MLB, and all the pay channels. $159.00 every month should get me something.

    Thanks for the info!

How about DVD players that clain to be upconverters? If I put it between my DVR and TV will do you think it would upconvert the signal, or just the DVD Playback? Any thoughts?
