alright i have a dell pc and the os is Windows XP. when i bought it it came with a reinstallation cd. well recently i decided i want to sart over with my computer and get rid of everything. i put in this cd and selected new installation and went through all the steps. after a while though i realized that it wasnt going to erase everything and just put the os on, but that it was going to install the windows xp to everything else that is on the drive. how should i go about deleting everything off the drive and then just reinstall windows so thats all there is? that way its like manufacture settings.
How did you start the CD. Pop it in the player and click on Install Windows. Try restart with the disk in. When it say "hit any key to boot from CD" do so. When it asks if you want to repair Windows say no and use the other option. When it comes to the part about partitioning the drive, delete the one(s) you have. Then create a new partition which will need to be formatted. That will wipe the disk.
ok im kinda nervous about doing this cuz this is a family computer, not just mine. it should work flawlessly, right?
Yes it should but you will have to re-install all the updates from the Web. I hope you have a fast connection. You have all the disks to re-install all the software on the PC? If you think you will do this often, run a search on "XP Slipstream".
i have generally the same question...but i don't have the driver cd that came with the computer...i have a dell drivers and utilities cd(that came with another computer i have)...will this work to possibly re-install any and all drivers(once the the hard drive is reformatted)?
kay....if you have the dell drivers specifically for that pc..then install those drivers and you'll be fine.... other than that any other hardware thats attached or installed onto the motherboard such as a video card, printer, or etc.; just install their drivers and it'll be fine.... other than that, doing window updates might be awhile if your running on a slow connection... also, if you dont have any of the driver cds...go to dell's website, log on to your account..if not register, register your system into your account, and you can find the drivers from there...hope this helps
umm when you say do i have the cd's to install the software, your asking about other software i may have on my pc, right. i have the cd's to what i want and the things i dont have, and downloaded them from the internet i went to my programs file and saved the program files to an external hdd that i have. will that work?
thanks...that's what i was thought was going to happen...found a great site for all drivers... http://www.totallydrivers.com/drivers/
