I'm sure this question has been asked before, as in reading through the threads it's obvious many people are having trouble with Nero. I decided to just remove it and use other burning programs, ie, itunes. I ran the full Nero clean (downloaded it from this site), but my burner is still not recognizing any disks. I can't burn anything. I'm using Windows XP. Thanks for your help.
Hi bonkem What the make & model of the drive? Firmware version? How about the discs you are using? Like Sony +R 8x. Can the burner still play dvd's?
After I sent that question, my computer started freezing up and I couldn't even get on the internet. I did a system restore, so now I am back to square one. Nero on my computer, can't burn any CD's using itunes or musicmatch. Now I'm afraid to remove nero again. I think the Nero clean system I downloaded after removing nero is what froze my computer. What should I do now?
The Nero clean tool shouldn't have started those problems. Post back your drive info (listed above). See if you have any Nero logs - if you do post the last one - will give some info that can be helpful. They are located at: For Nero 6: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory For Nero 7: program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory Just be sure to edit out your serial # - they usually begin w/ 1A,5C or 1C. Sounds like you have more going on with the PC then just burning issues. Could be a number of things that may or may not be causing your burning problems. Are you running antivirus, spyware and a firewall and keeping the definitions current? Regularly scanning the pc (anitvirus, spyware) for infections? What programs are you using?
I tried to find Nero log information, but couldn't find anything with the pathways you told me to use. Nothing comes up with 'core'. I also ran something else in nero that stated: 'Shell manager database is corrupt or is missing'. Of course, I don't have the Nero CD here at home this weekend. All I want to do at this point is get Nero off, and get my burner working again. I know I can uninstal, etc., but I'm afraid if I do this, it will clog up my computer again. Since I've set my computer back, everything is fine again. I'm running Norton Antivirus and firewall, and they are updated. For spyware, I use spybot and adaware. I scanned the pc for viruses and spyware today. I also did a clean disk, and cleared off files. Everything I have run leads me to believe there are no red flags on the computer. Do you recommend a different spyware program? Do you recommend I try to uninstall again? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!
It looks like Nero's already clogging it up. You're not alone in this problem btw Nero can be a pain to completely remove. Uninstall - run the clean tool. Remove anything that says Nero in programs files. Nero also has another clean tool (hmmm must be a reason )to try & rid your system of Nero entries/drivers that you might need to use. Here's links for both clean tools: http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Driver_CleanTool_and_RegistryChecker.html For the spyware progs - good there. Just was checking to make sure nothing else is going on.
Everything was going great. I uninstalled all things related to nero and rebooted the computer. Now I have a whole new problem. Maybe you can still help? I now have an error that says: Error 1706 No valid source could be found for product Easy CD & DVD Creator 6. The windows installer cannot continue. I had Roxio installed a long time ago, but it's not on my computer anymore. This error seems to be left over from Roxio. I don't have the Roxio CD (but I could get a copy from my father and that would take several days). I can still do anything on my computer not related to the CD player, but the error code will not go away. Also, I tried to bring up itunes and got an error that says the registry settings used by itune drivers for importing and burning CD/DVD's are missing - please reinstall itunes. I did reinstall but the error still comes up. Any suggestions now??
Hi Bonkem, When I have problems similar to yours, after using the uninstall, I go to Search, and type in the main word like Nero and search. It will list all of the Nero hidden files. I just delete them. Still with problems, then I use the command com to search the directories and systematically delete the Nero files. The deleted files will be saved to your trash can. you can always restore them if so desired.
bonkem- What you are going to need to do is a registry sweep. I do not normally advise someone to do it because you could damage your system. First follow alyadva advice on the above post. That will clean the files out of your system but your registry, which still has entries of Roxio Easy CD/DVD creator, and Nero in it. You need to get rid of both of them completely. Then you should be able to reinstall Nero and it should read your drive. Start-> Run-> Type "regedit" (without quotes) Your registry will open. Now click Edit->Find and type "Nero". After it finds an entry press Delete to remove it then press F3 to find the next entry. There may be a few that you will not be able to remove, but as long as you get the majority of them you will be in good shape. Now after you have swept the registry one time I want you to do it at least two more times. In order to do this you will have to highlight the My Computer at the top of the registry list. The reason I want you to do it this way, is because if you are not familiar with registries and entries, this will be safe. After that is complete start over again searching for "Easy CD/DVD", then do it again searching for, "Roxio". After everything that may be removed is done then you should be ready to reinstall. [bold]NOTE: Read each entry before you remove it. A computer may get confused and post something that is not related to the item you selected. Don't just push delete on everything. Make sure that what you delete is suppose to be removed.[/bold]
Thank you to everyone who helped me with the problem. I fixed it and am up and running with the CD burner again. I used all of your suggestions. Thank you Binkie 7, alyadva and syxguns!
I'm not exactly sure what the solution was, since I did everthing that was recommended to me. I'm guessing it was a combination. Thank you again for your help. When I did the registry sweep, there were several items for both Nero and Easy CD, so there was certainly left over stuff on my computer. It's a good thing to know for future reference.
