Hello all. I have a v7 gh-022 playstation 2 that I am trying to install a magic III mod chip onto. It requires multiple solder points on the underside of the main board, but I cannot get to those because the entire bottom side of the board is covered by a metal plate with 2 large heatsinks attached to it. There are no screws to unscrew. Not on the bottom or top. This board is stuck on. I read one post (all I could find on the net) that mentioned unsoldering the 4 large solder points, but I don't see such a solder point on the board. I am stuck. I have my ps2 disassembled and I really want to put this mod on, but I also don't want to snap my board in half trying to pry the metal cover off!

Anyone here, know how this is done? And if it is solder points, could anyone circle the proper solder points to desolder? Thanks for any help you can give me!!

I am guessing you are right at this part. It will appear like it is glued, but it is not.

Thank you very much! I've never seen a guide before that mentions this part, so I figured I must have a rare mainboard or something. Well, I put an unusual amount of force and it came off! The thermal pad was practically fused between the chip and heatsink. Thanks again for replying so quickly! Hopefully anyone that is having my problem will see this post! BTW.. where is that full disassembly guide located?
