I have an *.avi file with 2 sound tracks. Russian is predominat but I can hear the original English in the background very softly. I don't know Russian. Is there anyway I can drop the Russian and enhance the English? When I open the file in AVImux this is what I get. audio MPEG 1 layer 3(CBR 128 kbps, 2ch, 44100Hz,92.4Mbyte) video Four CC XVID(824kbps,595Mbyte,1 40 54) When I open it in virtualdubmod, it shows only one audio stream Thanks
the only way that would work is if the russian language is on one channel and english is on the other. is that the format the audio is in?
How can I get that information? When I open the file in virtualdubmod, it shows only one audio stream.
just play the file. does one language come out of one side (left) and the other language come out of the other (right)?
No, both come out from both speakers. But there is a time gap.I can hear the English softly first and the Russian translation follows loudly after a slight time gap. Can we make use of this time gap to get rid of the Russian?
if both languages are embedded on both audio tracks, then no unfortunately there's no way of separating the two languages. its like having a song of a band playing and wanting to remove the vocals. with a stereo mix of all the instruments (or both languages in your case) there's no way of extracting just one.
Ok.May be I can give it a last try.Suppose it is different in L&R as you suggested. How can I separate them and listen to them and see they are together or not? Another thought is whether there is any way one can erase all non English vocals from an audio track. Thanks for your kind patience.
As stated above, you can't remove/separate them if they are embedded(mixed) on both tracks..If you must see/hear to be sure, de-mux the audio stream from the avi and save as wav..load the wav in an audio editor like audacity and split the tracks..Listen to each one separately.. Maybe get yourself an english version next time..Or get an english audio stream and mux a new avi with english language..
This is the wrong spot for this. Try the shrink forum. You need to back up the video and drop the Russian. If you haven't lost your remote you can switch sound tracks. I not not notice it was avi. I and the shrink forum are fam8ilier with DVDs but I assume the process is the same. There are usually several sound tracks and one is default. In your case Russian is the default. DVD rippers allow you to select which audio tracks you wish to keep. Unfortunatly, they are not usually labled.
i think you're mistaken mez. he downloaded a video file with a stereo track. this isn't a file that he created from a DVD that has multiple language tracks.
I am willing to try anything. Thanks for coming in mez djscoop is right.I downloaded the movie 'other people's money' from megaupload. It does not have multiple audio streams as I could make out.But it has two languages Russian and English playing together in both speakers. I took out the audio in mp3 and loaded it in audacity and applied the audio split. But I could not take out them one by one and listen separately. How can I do it? There should be some way to erase the Russian-that is what I think.Anybody else has any thoughts on this? Please! Thanks
once you loaded the audio file into audacity, and you can hear that both languages are playing out of both the left and right channels, there is really not much else you can do. both the english and russian audio tracks of the video are mixed together into one stereo track. there's nothing there to separate. your only solution is to find another version of the video that wasn't encoded with multiple languages in the audio.
So that is it!Anyway thanks.I have partially solved it by adding English subtitles with the help of a tutorial here. Is there any way I can get the English sound track for the film from the web free?
I will take your word fo it DJ. I rarely use anything but DVDs which do have seperate tracks. I have little tollerance for this kind of crap so I go DVD or HD. Having a movie in Russian is not my idea of entertainment.
