Hi, whats the best freeware or paid program for removing tv commercials automatic,the file is mpeg,tried videoRedo but doesn't do a very good job cheers.
no such program available. I also tried looking for one. videoredotvsuite is the best I could find. The automatic commercial finder isn't the best but will help a little. I just manually edit out the commercials. There is something else called "comskip" it's a free software that will scan your mpegs for commercials and then write a file. All it does is scan the video it won't cut anything out. You still need a video editer. It will give you a vprj file, that can be use with videoredo (plus can be use with other video editers). This program is more powerful than videoredo's built-in commercial scanner, but requires a learning curve. The program doesn't require installation it runs from the exe file, just drop your mpeg file on the comskipgui exe file and it starts, the finished report file will be located on the same folder as the video file. You just need to program the comskip.ini file with the file you want to output example if you want a vprj (you need to put a 1 on the output_videoredo=1).
Cheers tried comskip seems to do the trick,how do you stop videoredo reducing the quality of the output file,don't wont the video reduced in quality from what it already is.
videoredo won't reduce the quality of the output. I use it to edit all my mpeg2 recordings and the output is always the same as the original minus the commercials. Just make sure you "save as" the same format as the original file. For a 2gb file it should take less than 5 minutes to finish the editing. If it's taking longer than that you might have your settings wrong.
Well i must be missing something my friend,the file is 1.60gb but the final output size is 585,mb the best of it is though the file doesn't have the commercials missing?I'm either doing something wrong or I'm losing the plot,in the time line it shows where the commercials are but when i save it they are sill there, do you have to cut them out yourself? In the settings I've got it has save as mpeg but still reduces the size and doesn't remove the ads,cheers for your help so far.
using comskip I scanned a 1.6gb and output a vprj file. I use videoredotvsuite to open a project and browsed to the vprj file. It opened the video all the commercials where highlighted in red (no more manual editing needed). But here you might want to check it by toggle the preview mode button. When I was satisfied I pressed "save as" button on the button and choosed "MPEG program stream (mpg)" as file type. It took about 3 minutes to finish, the output file was 1.02gb, all the commercials removed and quality same as original. You might want in the "scene list" box, press the "invert scene selection", maybe your saving the commercials only and not the movie. Because 500mb is about the size of only the commercials.
OK, I'll have a look tonight when i get in from work,comskip found all the commercials but some of them didn't start at the very beginning some where about 30-40 seconds out if you select each 1 and mark it as start point then mark it as end point is that the correct procedure?
In my video, there was one set of commercials that was properly starting and ending but in the middle it missed a commercial. usually I would just set the beggining and end and cut it out again. But that didn't work I had to invert and reedit that section to get it to work. But it wasn't a big deal once I figured it out. I think that's just part of the learning curve on this program. So far I'm impressed with comskip, but will have to learn how to batch videos. I like to scan 30 or 40 videos at one time. I had stopped using videredo commercial scan because of it's innaccuracy.
