I've used dvd decrypter in file mode to read a scratched dvd and write the data to my hdd. Using powerdvd the file plays fine - on one of the vobs I notice there is a line of corrupted pixels (due to the scratched dvd and decrytper skipped the sectors it couldn't read) Its not too bad of a corruption and u can hard notice it. I would like to shrink this files down to a dvdr....but do u think I can do it. dvdshrink complains when its encoding, dvd2one also bombs out at the same place with "the logitcal block number doesa not match with the actual position in the file" I presume its gotta do with the corruption in the vob. How do I go about shrinking this down to a dvdr now? Does the vob need to be repaired? How do I go about doing this? Any help would be appreciated.
I've been having the same problem. I burned a LD movie to a dvd+r using Philips recorder. It created 5 VOB files app 900megs each. When any program gets to the 5th vob file, it crashes, mostly at 83% for some reason. I traced the problem to the 5th VOB. Different programs say different things, corrupt file, LBA error, cant read, ect... The thing is, the movie plays great on any player. Im still trying to find out what I cant to to fix it. I haven't been able to find and answer yet. If I do and it will help you, I wil post back here.
Hi guys, Heres a little trick that will work with movies that Shrink can analyze but not encode. You will loose the menu but at least you can burn the thing. Open the disc in Shrink and let it analyze. Select Re-author. Drag the main title into the compilation window on the left and click on the start/end icon. Using the Chapter select menu and the sliders, select the first portion of your movie, up to, but not including, the bad spot and click OK. The next step is to drag the main title into the compilation window again and do the same thing, this time selecting the end portion of the movie, from, but not including, the bad spot to the end. Select OK and you should be able to encode and burn your "movie minus the bad spot" compilation. Cheers, Frank
fasfrank, Thank you very much. I have been tring so hard to figure out what to do. You hit it perfect. I was able to cut out a mere 4 seconds of movie, which was barely noticed, and was able to make a perfect copy. If any one reads this.... Do what fasfrank said.
I used DVD decrypter to rip in file mode, it created 4 vob files. When I click on them they play fine in my powerdvd software, but when I try to bring it into nero it gives me an error "unable to insert xxxx.vob file Why will it play but import it into nereovision express? I ripped a different dvd and it accepted all of the vob's but this one?
Hi Duke, I have had a similar problem using NVE. It would let me put in all but one or two .vobs in. Some movies would work but others have a .vob that, for some reason, is not accepted by the program. I took one of those .vobs and split it into two separate, smaller .vobs using Shrink. I was thinking it might be just a size issue. That didn't work either. the program would take one of the new, smaller .vobs but not the other. I did contact Nero Tech Support but all I got from them was the guide URL for the program. I had that part figured out already. I was hoping for a technical explanation, but Nero Support apparently does not want you to know what is going on with their programs. Or they just don't know. I have the same issue with their burn log. An error code is generated when a failed burn or other problem occurs. It sure would be nice if they had a list of what each error code is and what is causing the particular error. All I can find at the web site is just a few Nero 5 codes. I like the programs but their support is pretty lame. I'm still looking for an answer to this problem. I don't have a problem doing a work-around with another program, but I would like to know what the actual problem with these particular .vobs are.
