Trying to burn TDK DVD+R DL discs to copy some movies. 1 out of the 5 attmepts have been successful. Using Nero 6 and AnyDVD initially and then upgraded to Nero 7.0.8.2. Copying to HD and then burning to DVD at 2.4x. Using Pioneer 109 DVD burner with the latest firmware. The disc will not play on either PC Pioneer 109 DVD or my Panasonic DVD-RV32 player (which supports DVD+R DL discs). Discs are aus$4.50 each-so it's getting very expensive for someone with limited means. The media code on the DL discs is RICOHJPN D00 (001)-manufactured by Ricoh. I did successfully burn a DVD on my TDK single layer discs using AnyDVD to rip and then DVD Shrink to fit on a 4.7GB disc-and it burned OK and then played in the DVD player-BUT it's pixellated (right term?) and jumpy at times-so not acceptable. Hi mattjenna Not that much wrong with the log - firmware update like you said, enuf free memory, all drives in DMA mode. The 1st part of the log has some key illegal requests - not too sure on them for the reading part but make sure the source disc is clean. From your log the burn fails in writing to the 2nd layer. Ricoh is a newer manufacturer of dl media. Your best bet would be to switch to Verbatim DL - who began making the 1st dl discs & probably have it more perfected than Ricoh. Now for the players not playing them - kinda of the same deal - it's newer media that may be hit or miss when trying to playback. Booktyping would be best to increase compatibility but your drive doesn't support that. Another option besides media is to try DVD Decrypter - rip the disc in iso mode than burn the .mds file created in iso write mode. For the single layer problem - TDK manufactured discs aren't always the best and that may be part of the playback problem. High speed can cause this too. Good single layer to use are Verbatim or made in Japan only Fuji & Sony. Try dvd decrypter for the dual layer and take the burn speed down to 2x. See how that goes w/ these discs.
@ mattjenna, hey i strongly agree with Binkie7 when it comes to the media, the verbs DL are the best media for DL burning. also u could try ImgBurn too if decrypter doesn't work out, i say this because in my experience i think that IMGburn handles the layer break better than decrypter does and it does hurt a little when one of those precious DL disks becomes a coaster especially when u dont have a lot of money
