I have a computer I am working on that the hard drive went bad in. The hard drive was a seagate 80 gig so i bought a new one wich is a sagate 120 gig. I pulled my old drive out, set the jumpers on my new drive to cable seclect popped it in, formated it, tried to install a fresh copy of windows. It formated fine all the setup files went in fine then it restarted and booted back up with an error that says cant find windows\system32\hal.dll does anbody know what i did wrong any help will be great.
Could of been an error when copying the file try to do a fresh install again...........What i do to make sure is i put HDD on Master and not cable select
I have tried a fresh copy like 4 times and i keep coming up with the same thing. Ill will change my jummper to master and try that
I fixed it. Seagate, the brand of hard drive I got has a disk wizard you are suposed to run before you install a OS on it. I never heard of such a thing but I ran it and it worked. Thanks everybody for your help.
