I hope this is acceptable here. If not, please accept my apologies. I have numerous TV shows on DVD I've bought over the past years and I'm now running out of room. Many of these shows were packaged in DVD cases way too bulky in thickness - this before slimlines were the norm. I'd love to now keep my collection in slimmer cases, some being multiple slimlines. Here's my ponderable: I can get the cases and I can scan the covers, etc. and make it all work. BUT - - will that "devalue" my collection? I can't see trying to sell off my stuff in the near future, so what's the harm? For example, "Seinfeld" comes in thick, roadmap type fold out cases . . way too much bulk. One season can fit into slimline multiple cases and take up about half the space. Just thoughts and opinions from the masses, please.
Haven't seen any of the thick cases show up on the Antiques Roadshow yet...not that there's anything wrong with that.
Suggest doing a little market research. Go to ebay, type in the description, under advanced search check completed sales only. Selling this type of DVD might be in violation of copyright laws.
I think you're missing the point. I'm not trying to sell anything. I'm just wondering about putting DVDs I've bought into different cases other than what they came in.
When you said devalue, I thought you meant you might want to sell some in the future. I wasn't even thinking in terms of the discs. The art work on the covers is also copywrited. For your own use I would think that would be fine. However if you want to sell them in the future, I would store the original cases some place out of the way.

Here's my thoughts: Archive the original dvd case inserts( sleeve protectors-file cabinet) make digital copies high res scans too. Then either back-up the stamped cds or dvds or just file them in clear slim jewel cases...they take up even less space that way. The trouble with the slim-line dvd cases is..the case artwork for the spline--most wasn't designed for slim cases. Simply scanning and resizing doesn't work...you would need to redesign your own with photoshop....which is a lot of work...even with a template and simply cutting the original into front, back, spline(resized or redesigned for slim spline case). The real problem is gel dvd-r(w)..over time all these backups will degrade and rot to nothing...so I've pretty much given up on backing up movies...it's just not $$$$ justifable any more..the expense of dvd cases + ink + blank media + TIME.....makes $9.99 a great deal! What's really needed is for the American Consumer to stand up and demand the MPAA and recording industry to stand behind the MEDIA(DVD's) and provide replacement of damaged or unreadable discs...that alone would end much of the copy right infringement problems.
