Did you try the audio or caption button on the DVD player remote? Some copies come up with the sub-titles on, and hitting one of those buttons on the remote, usually toggles it on or off.

Are the subtitles already imbedded into the Avi, or you have them in separate file?

No the subtitles were already inbedded later by someone else
and yes I have eveything turned on I can see the subtitles
there just below the screen so you only see the top half of them
I took the disk over my brotherinlaws house and tryed playing the unconverted avi on his dvd player cause his can play avi files
and it was the same problem But when I play the avi on the computer they play beautifuly.

My friends TV has the same issues. I can see them on my TV because I'm able to adjust the V-size and position on my TV. He is unable. I don't know which TV's are able to this but mine is a Maxent 42inch plasma.

I just solved my friends issue with this problem. When you launch NeroVision express click on the more buttom then the default video options. Once there click on the DVD tab and check the 16:9 box. This will record it in widescreen and move the subtitles up. This work for my Naruto avi files. Let me know if it works
