Hi..First poster so hope this is the relative forum..I have two avi Xvid files (Part one and Part two 699mb each) ..My aim is to put them on a DL DVD to be played on a normal DVD player and in trying to do this I struck all sorts of problems but have now established that I missed an important factor when I checked files with GSpot.....Part one is 640 x 480 and Part Two is 720 x 592...So as I understand both should be exactly the same..I always have problems using Vdub on Xvid files so was told to resize using Avidemux but my many attempts have failed but I think I know where I am going wrong IE Although I had the resize filter selected ..I had Video set at copy and I am now thinking it should be set to a Codec for a full encode for the resize filter to work..Am trying now but its going to take 4 hours? So I am posting in the hope that there may be a quicker and easier way to make both Xvid files uniform in every aspect.. I am getting old so I do require clear instructions of anybody can offer help...for which I would be extremely grateful...Thanks HK.
I use AviDemux but if your goal is just to put the 2 avi onto a single disc to play on stand-alones then it would likely be faster just to use FAVC and convert to standard DVD. If your stand-alone can play DVDs with more than one title then you don't have to do anything special. Just select the encoders you want to use and set FAVC to 7.95 GB disc capacity. Trying to encode to the same size or smaller is usually slower. Encoding to a higher bitrate is usually faster. Kind of like compression. Unzipping is faster than zipping.
In Avidemux, drag the 720x592 file in. Click 'Video' and change from 'Copy' to 'XviD 4'. Click 'Filters'. 'Resize' to 640x528 'OK' 'Crop' 24 off top and bottom 'OK' Save the new file. Close, restart Avidemux and drag both files in. 'Save' (everything set 'Copy')
Thankyou MilesAhed and Attar...I will certainly try FAVC and Attar...I was on the right track last night when I changed Copy to Xvid 4 along with the resize filter ...It took 4 hours so when I woke up in the middle of the night it was encoded and checking with Gspot I saw that I had resized the file but as you point out I still have to crop which certainly never occured to me...BTW I do not have a stand alone DVD Player..the files are Tudorials on Arc Welding and I have promised two friends who prefer stand alone DVD's copies...I certainly have learn't a lot over the past few days...HK
Use ConvertX to DVD, you'll be able to burn the resulting vts files to DVD5. Works good for me everytime.
Esp. if the videos are for other people unless you're sure what their players can handle, it may be best to convert to plain vanilla DVD. avi playback seems to be getting better with stand-alones but if they have a player a year or 2 old that plays avi it may not like your avi files. bvop a luba!!
Again thanks for replies...I do have my two AVI files ready BUT so far I have tryed several programs including DVD Flick,FAVC and all failed in the burning process.HK
Hi.Yes on FAVC I was as I just set it to go its normal way but half way through the burn it just stopped and ejected disk...On DVDFlick I set it to create a ISO file and it failed.I did this as DL DVD's are expensive here and I thought it best to get an ISO file first....I have now joined the two avi's into one file and hope that this will prove more successful...Thanks HK.
It may save time and effort if you post the GSpot specs of the orginal .avi files. 4 hours seems like a long time to resize. Sure it's not also changing the frame rate? Let's see the specs instead of guessing.
Do note that DL burning is tricky and compatibility with players is hit or miss. With your sources it makes way more sense to just make 2 SL discs (it will also be cheaper). Your odds of delivering playable DVD's will be much better.
I hope I can answer some of the comments..I do not see a log on Gspot . However I do point out that I have checked each and the particulars are exactly the same BUT what has puzzled me is when I resized down the second file from 720 x 592 to 640 x 480 the file size went from 716mb to 357mb... I have now encoded with convertxtodvd to an ISO file.. Now it did encode to just over 4gb and this allowed me to burn using Nero Express and I am very pleased with the result...I am now doing a second encode,trying titling and also using the original part two file so I will know if convertxtodvd accepts two files of different size...Once again I thank you all for your responses..HK
The idea is to post a GSpot screen shot so we can look for ourselves. If I think something is written on a page and I read it again, my mind will see what I'm expecting. That's why you ask someone else to look at it. No preconceptions.
