Resolution Problem!

    Hi,
    I converted an AVI file using TMPGEnc to MPEG-2 NTSC. I changed the resolution to 720 x 480, and the movie was still full screen. Isn't it supposed to be widescreen? Can anyone help?

    did you change the aspect ratio to 16:9 in the advanced tab under settings? that will give you the widescreen format.

    Hi,
    Isn't it supposed to be 4:3? Another movie of mine was only 4:3 720 x 480 and it was wide screen! Wouldn't making it 16:9 make it for like flat large screen TV's?

    HELP ONCE AGAIN PLZ!

    dont know why that came out as widescreen it should have came out as full. did you use tmpgenc for that? as for as i know, 16:9 is for widescreen and 4:3 is for full screen. i know for sure that if you set it at 16:9 in tmpgenc it will give you widescreen, at least it has for me in the past.

    Widescreen is always 16:9. Movies in 4:3 can be letterbox, but that's not the same thing. The difference is that widescreen movies are automatically expanded to fit the entire width of a 16:9 TV by the DVD player (aka anamorphic) while letterbox movies have to be stretched by the TV.

    Hi,
    Does that have to do with the original file? My original file played in Real Player put to full screen was actually wide screen. What's the difference between letterbox and wide screen? Can someone post a picture? Does letterbox have like bigger black bottom and top?

    Thanks for the help guys :)! I actually found a better program to encode for me now which actually shows me what it's going to look like before it converts.

    What is the program that you used to encode? Cause I'm trying to make widescreen movies and before I spend 20hrs waiting for it to encode, I would like to know what it looks like.

    Hi,
    I used TMPGEnc Xpress. It converts much faster, and it has more features like blocking out extra sound, ghost reduction, color correction and much more. I just found this program a couple of days ago and am charmed at how it works. Very easy to use :)! And since it's from TMPGEnc, we can trust it :)! You can download a trial version from http://www.pegasys.com.
