I to have a Ricoh mp5240A.It has never read my burned dvd movies.I have to use my dvd rom to do my burned dvd movies to watch on my computer.I just thought that my ricoh is a writer and not a reader. My dvd rom reads all my burned movies just fine.Except I am looking to update my burner cause it is starting to get real picky on what dvd media to use.

I have had a Ricoh MP5240A for several years and yes, it is very picky. It would read burned DVDs but only if they were burned v e r y slowly .. I retired it some time ago and it currently is being used as a paperweight

I think they like to put the crappy dvd burners in the already made computers like compaq and HP.I don't know what dell puts in there computers for a dvd burner but I know my Hp has this Ricoh and I barely use it at all I have had a sony dru710a,bought a external case and put my burner in that.I just did the update for my sony and it will burn any media. My ricoh sits in my Hp computer,it is just too picky with media and it is also a slow burner.
