Ok I have to admit that I am not a gamer nor do I want to become one. I do want a build me a computer that will be upgradeable as far as graphic card, cpu, memory and support for SATAII once it matures. But I am not sure if I should get a top line AMD64, X2 or just get a Sempron cpu for my intended purposes. I inially wish to build my computer for broadband internet access, files downloaded from p2p sites, burning about 25-30 dvd data disks a day. Eventually I plan to incoporate Photoshop and video editing software programs because I plan to film my own movies within a year. So can anyone here direct me to the best possible pc I can build at the most reasonable price? Oh by the way my initial budget is about $950
dual core i hear is the best for what you want to do.you want to open lots of windows,right?p2p in one, video edit in another, listen to music all at the same time right?you definately want dual core but i hear in the spring they are coming out with a new processor that will be dual core and have ram[memory]built into the processor.thats like everybodies dream cpu.so you might want to wait and see what a couple months brings so your not outdated right off the bat.look at this board: http://www.asrockamerica.com/Products/939DSATA2.htm read this review:\ http://www.ocworkbench.com/ocwb/ultimatebb.php?/topic/30/4749.html http://www.pcstats.com/artvnl.cfm?articleID=1860 http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2524 now these guys really check stuff out: http://www.anandtech.com/default.aspx http://www.3dgameman.com/[this one i really like cause he has videos on all different products] hope this helps you make a great pc...peace bro
With this new dual core proc, will it be available on the 939 motherboard? And I thought that all of AMD processors have memory controllers built into the processor? Maybe I am wrong but I thought that was the reasons for why AMD is beating Intel in gaming benchmarks even with support only for ddr and not ddr2
this is something new. look at the asrock 939-sata 2 motherboard theres a daughter board coming out next year that will go in this board, but anyway check out asrock.com i think that motherboard supports dual core.you could also try the asus deluxe board, everybody seems to like that board or the dfi lan party motherboard suppose to be the fastest
Yeah that Asrock motherboard I am definitely interested in because newegg is selling it for about 69 bux. It offers everything I would want and need as of now. I just want something that will supply with my above mentioned desires and needs for atleast the next year or so before I upgrade.

Sounds like a good board but I am not a gamer and I don't even have close to those types of funds to afford those items. Let me tell you what I plan to get. 3500 Venice or 3700 San Diego (can't find a Sempron for the 939 board. Maxor Maxline III with 16mb of cache, 512mb of Rosewill DDR400 memory module, 2 NEC 3540 drives, and a internal memory card reader (16 in 1). i am going to try and get my speakers for free on freecycle.com, get my keyboard and mouse from a store to save on shipping cost and I haven't decided what type of graphic card I want I just know that I want a all in wonder card and I don't want to spend more than 150 dollars
Have anyone on afterdawn purchased items from online auction sites such as ebay. I really want to save as much money as I possibly can and noticed some incredible deals on graphic cards and such. Is this also a good idea?

no store bought[pre-built] is better then a pc you build yourself.youll see in about 6months that store bought will start bottlenecking, running real slow, cant usally upgrade cause everything is made so crappy.youll see.i bought my last one at best buy,a emachine 2825 nothing but problems.another thing youll notice is your cooling in that pc wont be any good.you will probably upgrade the video card and everything will get real hot and shut down.have to put house fans blowing in the side to keep kool.no problem like that here.built mine myself the processor stays between 29 c and 32 c and my video card is 44c to 54c.my emachines always ran hot, shut down, froze, love those store bought...he...he...he
rugripper. Per-built, don't it cost more and take alot of your time? If you built it yourself from the bottom-up you have to buy a Case, Processor, Motherboard, Chipset, Fan Heatsink, Power Supply (if it don't come with the Case), Memory, Hard Drive, CD/DVD Drive, Floppy Drive, Video Card, Sound Card, and OS. Plus if you shopping online you have pay Reg. Price + S/H + Tax (they Tax you on S/H too) and you have to wait for a week or more to come. After all that, you have put everything together and hope it work. Wow..that alot of work. When buying a computer at a store like BestBuy and you know what type of computer you looking for. Everything is put together from Motherboard, to...etc. Also you get a Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, and Speakers. You have to pay Reg. Price + Tax also you get Mail-In Rebates so you save. Wow...that less work. rugripper. Not all store bought computer are bad, but if you like Per-built its cool.

i built in a day,the parts came in 3 days, used my old crt m70 monitor and video card.i didnt need dvd drives, wanted to upgrade.i didnt need that sound card wanted x-fi,damn its sweet.so that pc goes for like 850 retail,i built this for 1000 but if you take off the price of the parts i could have swapped out from my old pc it would have been alot less and that money would have bought my monitor.i think its about the same for something decent but mine does not get hot,i can play fear, quake 4,battlefield2 with no lag perfectly because this pc has no onboard video to screw it up.
Building a Quality computer is MUCH cheaper and fairly simple to do it yourself, for the same price as some Best Buy crap computer you can have a good piece of equipment that you can easily and cheaply upgraded (compared to buying a new one). All "store bought" computers have minimal upgrade ability. Also if you want to burn dvd's and be able to use your computer at the same time an X2 is a necessity, else the system will lag or cause bad burns. Also I wouldn't get TWO NEC ND-3540a's, I'd get one and a BenQ DW-1640. The BenQ, if you get a good one, is the BEST burner out, period, because of its QSuite 2.0 software. The 3540 is actually not a bad ripper (use Dee's firmware from CDFreaks.com) and a good burner. I got the Lite-On DVD ROM (in sig.) because of some great reviews of its audio ripping, but it has problems recognizing some DVD's, so I don't get much use out of it. If you want to build a system go to newegg.com create an account, then make a wish list. Read up on the items in the wish list and post it on various boards for feedback. This will allow you to get a good system right off the bat. Also SATA II drives are "mature", they are mostly IDE drives with the new interface (except the Raptor, which is a SATA drive based on a fast SCSI drive). The SATA data cables are nice, mucho smaller and less prone to block airflow.
thanks dog i couldnt have said it better myself....when it is all said and done store bought pcs suck, build it yourself pcs rock.there is no comparison...end of story...peace thanks dog
I agree with demon dog. Plus the computer I want to build will be upgradeable and with a store bought brand you don't know how upgradeable it is and if you open the case to upgrade a lot of times you void your warranty. Yes there are benefits to buying a pre built compute such as everything is warranted and you can take the whole computer to that location to have it repaired or replace where as if you build it you would have to go to each manufacturer individually. But with my built compute I can get a 3700+ AMD 1mb processor, 2 NEC Dual layer 3540 drives, a SATAII compatiable motherboard with pcix16 support, 300gb 16mb cache buffer harddrive, 16in 1 internal card reader, gaming case with about 400watts of power for about 650 dollars. Now that doesn't include graphic card, mouse and keyboard or speakers but I am trying to get my speakers and graphic card from freecycle.org (I doubt it but it is a decent try). Hopefully even with everything my computer will not exceed 930 dollars. I hate to say it but I may have to get a linux or Solaris OS system since it is free or just get a "cracked version of MS XP"
yea b,thats what im talking about.ive been trying to help this dude or babe for days, and i couldnt quite write the right thing down.b and dog summed it up quick...oopppps there it is[lol]peace
that best buy thing sucks donkey balls , when you buy a pre built pc it's a comprimise when you build your own you get what you want in the case you want ...then again i wouldn't say no to an alienware Aurora 7500
hey jonni, needed that...donkey balls...LMAO rolling around the floor,my stomach hurts im laughing so much.....yea man, thats what im talking about...thanks guys peace
[bold]Damn...i getting my ass kick hard....nobody backing me up...i guess it game over for me in this thread...PerBuilt...Its all good.[/bold]
