Good Day, I know that there is an enourmous amount of post addressing some of my questions. However, due to the excessive amount of discussions on each post; the answers become difficult to follow or understand. At times, confusion is added to a simple question. I am very new to video editing. I would appreciate easy to follow suggestions and tools I can use to accomplish what I want to do. You can recommend shareware, freeware and commercial products, including DVD Lab Pro and Adobe Premiere. Please keep it simple so that I and others can follow. You might be an expert on video production, but I am not. My goal is to rip the video/audio to my PC's hard disk. Edit the video; author the edited video and burn a DVD. I want to edit a DVD-R recorded and finalized on my Panasonic home recorder. I want to basically remove all commercials. Yes, I can edit the video/audio directly using the Panasonic recorder, but it is time consuming using small buttons on the remote control. I already know how to rip the video/audio from the DVD-R to the hard disk of my PC. What tools can I use to remove the commercials or unwanted material before I author a new DVD and burn it? Scenario 1: If the DVD-R has two shows (the second show follows the first), how can I split the video/audio to place the second show on its own DVD when burning time comes? The video/audio for the second show do not have its own set on files on the DVD-R. As an added bonus, how can I add a simple menu to display the name of the show? What if the DVR-R has two shows on it, but each show has its own video/audio set of files on the DVD-R? When you play the DVD on a home recorder you see two separate shows you can select from. Scenario 2: A DVD-RAM disc contains four separately recorded shows. When you play the DVD-RAM on a home recorder with DVD-RAM capability you see four separate shows you can select from. How would you create four different segments to edit, add a simple menu with the name of the show, re-author and burn the four shows to a single DVD-R? Or to its own DVD-R if it is easier. I have experimented a little with TMPGEnc Author. I can edit and add a menu for each show. I am not using chapters; however, when I play the DVD on a home player there is a small gap where I removed the commercials or the unwanted material. If I remove the commercials or unwanted material directly on the Panasonic home recorder before copying the show from the Panasonic hard disk to the DVD-R, there is no pause in the video/audio when playing the finalized DVD-R. Your expertise is greatly appreciated! Edwin
For editing VOBs, Mpeg or RAM files on your computer you should give VideoReDo a try. Frame-accurate and with a long trial (ask for a trial key), it will output DVD-compliant Mpegs ready to be authored with TMPGEnc Author. I have a similar set-up to you; I always use RAM discs to record on (re-uasable), and then copy it to the HDD to be edited with VideoReDo. It doesn't matter how many different shows you have on the disc- you save each one (after editing out commercials etc.) to it's own file. When you've saved them all you import them into TMPGEnc Author(as different tracks) to be made into a DVD. You can easily make menus & chapters for each show. For your first scenario you want to try a program called VOB2MPG v2.2 which will take each set of VOBs from the DVD-R and output them into their own Mpegs (one for each set of VOBs). You'll need to install the Microsoft .NET framework on your PC (if it's not already installed) to use VOB2MPG.
Thank you for the information. Do you have any step by step guide? It is easier for me to follow when trying something. BTW, VideoRedo reads the video stream without any problems, but it is difficult to set the markers to remove the unwanted material. When using the mouse to set the markers on the horizontal slider; the markers jumps forward and back. Not easy to setup the "Se. Start" and "Sel. End". I have tried the arrows on the keyboard. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help!
You have to be careful to record all shows on one disc at the same quality setting - I usually record them all at LP as it gives very good quality at four hours a disc. There's an option in VideoReDo to run the file through Tools>Quickstream Fix - this will give the file a once-over to check for errors etc. and save it as a 'clean' file. You'll probably be getting the 'Video dimensions have changed' error - like I say this is a (usually) a result of using the different recording settings.
Thank you for your response. No, no errors. It just takes time to get used to the program. I got a DVD-RAM with four LP shows on it. How do you split the DVD-RAM into four separate programs? How do you save each separately, but create a final DVD-R with all four shows on it?
Copy the whole disc to the hard drive. Open VideoReDo (VRD) and drag the DVD-RAM file into it. There are different settings in VRD- have a look at their how-to guides and forums here: http://www.videoredo.net/msgBoard/index.php -It's worth reading a couple of the guides as there are a lot of features that are not readily obvious. Here's a very useful guide: http://videoredo.seedwiki.com/wiki/...N=75342390&jsessionid=c2301870341159184555549 Go into Tools>Options>Navigation to tweak the way VRD will handle the video. Then in Tools>Options>General Parameters make sure the editing mode is set to Scene Mode as this is the mode you need to be able to select Start and End markers of the selection you want to keep. When you have your DVD-RAM file in VRD, mark Start and End of the first part you want to keep (if it's got no adverts that's all you need to do) then Add Selection, then Save As (make sure you have Mpeg Program Stream selected in the Save As Type dropdown). When it's finished saving, clear the Scene List (upper right hand corner) and repeat the process for the second part you want to keep. If you've got four recordings on the RAM disc, you'll end up with four seperate mpegs. Cutting out the adverts using VRD's frame accuracy is very satisfying; how-to guide no.14 on : http://videoredo.seedwiki.com/wiki/...N=75342390&jsessionid=c2301870341159184555549 After you've saved everything you want to keep, delete the RAM file on the hard drive, put your DVD-RAM disc back in the Panasonic and Erase Disc ready for your next recording.
Glad to be of some help. I've just noticed your last point about the DVD-R folder...after you've saved your mpegs using VRD, they are all set to be imported into TDA Author. You won't have any annoying gaps on the finished DVD playback.
