Hi, I have been ripping DVDs for several years but I have come across a problem I can not figure out. I use DVD decrypter or DVD Fab to rip DVDs with. Recently I purchased Bram Stoker's Dracula The Collectors Edition (2008 release) and ripped it to my hard drive. Anyone familiar with the film knows that in the beginning of the film there are hard-coded subtitles for the Romanian speaking dialog between Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins. Oldman has the famous line: The Blood is the life and it shall be mine!"

Anyway, using DVD Decrypter the rip does not show those subtitles. So I tried DVD fab and the same thing. I even ripped it without removing RCE protection and the result was the same. However if you watch the original DVD normally on a DVD player, the subtitles are present.

Would anyone be able shed some light on what is going on? I want to be able to copy the DVD and have included those subtitles that should be in the Movie. Thank you for your attention to this. (I know that the older DVD release of this film can be ripped with the hard coded subtitles because I have downloaded a copy of it.) If it is some sort of protection issue is there a way around it. Thanks again.
    Cheers

Are you certain that these are hard coded and not 'forced' subs.

BTW, you have multiple threads on the same subject and that's a no-no.

Perhaps with this version of the DVD they are "forced" subtitles. Is there a way to view them with the rip, or a way in which you can rip the forced subtitles with the film? Thanks

If they are forced subtitles, they should have been ripped.
'Forced', just means that the standalone DVD player will turn them on automatically.

Did you by any chance use DVD Shrink - because it has a setting to ignore small subtitle streams.
