ripping full movie

    Hey guys, got a quick question... I want to rip a movie, it has both widescreen and fullscreen. I want all the other features of the movie..other than the full screen ratio. If I select the entire movie, other than the vob files for the full screen, should that work, do i have to do something else, cause it doesn't seem to play on my computer...thanks alot for the help

    Some DVD PLayers dont like certain types of recorded DVD's. What software are you using? If its a software problem try the Pinnacle Studio 8 package. I think you can virtually anything with it.

    I don't think you can just take out the vob files for the full screen.
    From what I understand (and I'm still a newbie though) the IFO file is like the map of the dvd.
    And by taking out bits and pieces of that map, it causes the whole map not to work.

    My recommendation is to use DVD Shrink (or dvd95) to pick out which parts of the movie you'll be reauthoring. Check the forums and guides for the how-to.

    You are correct about the IFO file being the 'map' of the DVD. however, i think you are able to create an IFO in Pinnacle Studio 8 and link that to certain VOB files. I could bwe wrong, but i was reading up on it. I haven't tried it myself.

    It depends

    Payback, for example in the UK has two sides, one with full screen, the other widescreen. In this event, do a full disk copy of the side with the format you want and process it as normal onto a DVD-R (you could use DVD Decrypter for the whole job, or use DVD2ONE to compress is necessary, then burn with Nero)

    If the Dual Layer DVD has both formats on it, as well as some other features, then there could be two separate series of VTS files. If that was the case, you would rip the whole thing in file mode, with either Smart Ripper or DVDecrypter and then use software like DVD95COPY to select all everything, except the VTS with the full screen on it (after ripping the whole movie, just chech the VTS files using MediaPlayer. The ones with the full screen, they will have all the same suffix, like VTS_01_1 instead of VTS_02_1 etc and leave them out.) You can also use DVD Shrink for this, as both software allow the removal of VTS you don't want.

    Technically, it is possible that there could be two video streams, one widescreen, one full screen (although I have never seen this in a UK release, it may exist elsewhere)

    Two choices, either use stream processing to select the video stream you want and uncheck the other one, or identify which one is the one you want in DVD2ONE, when you process the movie.
