I have a family video and I don't know what program was used to make the disk. I'd like to capture the audio files. I've tried Free DVD MP3 Ripper and I get the message:
The operation cannot be performed because the pins are not connected. ($80040209)
    Anybody understand that error??

I've also tried DVDVideoSoft Free Video to MP3 Converter with no success. Anyone know what else I can try or maybe what my problem is??

Are the video clips on a DVD disc?..If you can play the files you can record the audio with say Audacity and save as wav or mp3..Sorry can't help with the free DVD mp3 ripper..
If the DVD was created properly, then the proggie I would use to rip the audio only is DVDDecrypter..Use this older but still reliable/useful guide..For the audio conversion I woudl then use Audacity..There are other methods to rip audio, but we need more specific details on your part..

Shrink may be better than DVDDecrypter. Both are valuable tools to have in your bag of tricks. Both are mainstays in the DVD arena. As usual, I will concur with the rest of the advice. Do not expect the audio to be great. DVD sound (not HD DVDs they are a different animal) is inferior to CD sound and homemades normally are made with a build in mic which is passable at best. I have to make videos were the sound needs to be better. Very few camcorders even allow you to use an external mic. So don't blame the process if your sound is not perfect, it will not be.

Thanks so much for your responses. I can capture the audio with audacity but I've never captured from a dvd so I thought I'd try. I tried DVD Shrink and the audio says it's LPCM 2-ch Unspecified - 288 MB. I don't think linear pulse code modulation is used much anymore and I don't know how to capture that from Shrink if it can be captured. As far as decrypter, I downloaded and really like ImgBurn and when I installed it, it said that it replaces decrypter and do I want to delete it so I said ok and now it's gone from my machine. I do have a copy somewhere but when I tried to use ImgBurn to recover audio I couldn't figure out how to do it or if it does it. Anything else you guys can add will be greatly appreciated. I like the learning process. Thanks again.

Imgburn is a burning app,and the same person created/authored DVDD..You can have both installed....AFAIK, DVDshrink does not rip audio only from DVD's..As stated above try DVDDecrypter and follow the guide..Once ripped, whether wav/pcm or ac3 audio, you can use audacity and import the audio stream and edit/convert/save as wav or mp3...
You can of course rip the DVD to HDD and use a number of other proggies to extract the audio..There's PGCDemux for one..Again, there's more than one way to skin a cat..
As far as 'capturing" with audacity from a DVD source, just play the DVD while simultaneously recording with audacity..

Copy the Video_ts folder to the harddrive and open the title set in DGindex.
You'll find an entry within the program to demux the audio.

    1) You change the source of your capture in audacity with a toggle near the mic icon.

    2) You can't rip or capture music from a video with Shrink. It will rip the audio files from a DVD if they aren't encrypted or have an encryption it can break. Then follow Dave's advice.
