    Hi,

I just bought a bunch of Ritek unbranded CD-Rs from www.WCWMedia.com
I used Alcohol 120% which gave me the following ATIP info:

    ATIP Lead-In: 97m27s18f
    ATIP Lead-Out: 79m59s74f (LBA: 359999)
Media Manufacturer: Plasmon Data Systems Ltd
    Recording Layer: Cyanine Material
    Media Type: CD-R
    Media Sub Type: 04H
    Indicative Tardet Write Power: 05H
    Reference Speed: 00H
    Unrestricted Use Disc(URU): 00H
    A1/A2/A3: 000000h/000000h/000000h

Ok, so they don't appear to be Ritek, like they should be.
Who the hell are Plasmon Data Systems?
    Have I been ripped off?

Also the discs were stated to be 48X, but when I try to burn them using Nero, Alcohol 120% or Easy CD Creator, the Max speed is 8x. The max speed of the CDWriter is 40x. But in a different CDWriter (whos max burn speed is 16x) I get a max speed of 16x. Never had this problem before with other media.
Any ideas as to wots going on?
    Cheers.

Hmmm, I cant actually find them on that site (eyes not what they usued to be and all that)... To be blunt, Plasmon is pretty sh1te.

It seems you have two reasons to try and return them :
    1) They aren't Ritek
    2) They don't burn at specific speed

    "Not fit for purpose"

Kick up enough fuss and they'll have them back. Although its often useful to keep some cr@ppy cdr's kicking around for testing and stuff :p

When exactly did Ritek change from being a relatively bad manufacturer to a good one? (honest question, no sarcasm really). All the Riteks I have are crappos. Could just be my luck of course

Ive read in a couple of threads, people reckon that Ritek improved after they started making 8x discs. Before that, at lower speeds they were crap.

16x and upwards. Although the TDK Reflex Ultra things by Ritek (16x) are sh1tty (well, error rates are very high, but not one has died yet (now about 4 years old, I think))

Nowadays, the 48x and the like Ritek are excellent; really really good :)

(and yes, dont waste any money on the lottery :D )_X_X_X_X_X_[small]: DO the things that people say you cannot :[/small]

Bummer... all my Ritek discs are like 4 (or even 5) years old eeek! Lol. Oh well the only complaint i have with them is that they dont burn at 32x (as marketed) but are limited to 24x

Ritek changed from crap to excellent when the 8x product line was announced (years ago). I don't think I have had a single Ritek coaster after that (thousands burned) and all my Ritek 8x discs are still running good (including PSOne backups, which is a sensitive device).
