The reason you got those swirls is cause the discs cant handle 4x and the dye melted.

what do you mean so bad. Tell me the problem. As far as i see, the game loads as fast as my original game. Can't beat that with memorex.

I'm not exactly sure how to check media ID but I opened up Nero InfoTool and under Manufacturer ID it says ProdiscF01, is that the media ID?

I've been using Philips Dvd-R (CMC Mag.Ae1) with no problems so far I've done 6 back-ups but I've done games ppl had problems with like GTASA,Starwars BF
DefJam FFNY, and some others plus I have one of cheapest DVD-/+ R drives everyone on the net says it's garbage a NU DVDRW DDW-082 so I think sometimes it's the just luck of the draw

yeah, used that nifty dvdinfo (thanks) program.
these are legitamte G04 disks, and they definetly work badly.

my much berated princo discs work far better, still, i'm gonna lay hands on something better soon, thanks again guys.

Anyone know of a place online that sells discs, presenting the media code upfront? I'd rather that. My places don't.

just tried some more media, was usin TDK and that seemed to work fine with most of my backups, until i backed up burnout 3, with the TDK the whole game stuttered badly, so I backed it up with Verbatim and it runs flawlessly, so im gunna stick with the verbatims for the time being :)

... If you go to http://www.supermediastore.com and click on the media that you're interested in, they will display the media code as part of the description of the product ... by the way, here's a good price for first class (-R) media ... http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-media-100.html ... http://www.meritline.com also displays the media code ... I haven't had good experiences with them as of late, but they do have a bunch of satisfied customers ...

... Personally, I get (+R) RiDATA branded Ritek discs from NewEgg and they have been coded RICOHJPNR01 and they have been 100% quality all the way ...

what the crap is legacy? This brand probably won't work. And no i always burn at 2x speed, try 4x and chances are u will end up w/ a non-working ps2 backup dvd.

I ran the 3 types of G04's that I have used through DvdInfo and this is what I came up with. There is certainly seems to be a difference between the clear branded hub G04's that I have had trouble with backing up PS2 games and the other 2 types that I have had no problems with in the past. Now I'm no expert and not sure what most of this stuff means but perhaps someone else can figure out what the differenc is.

when I said TDK 8x suck I had burned them at 4x Ive been burning everything at 4x and never had an issue. The whole burning at faster then 2x issue is a hoax that got started somehow. I'm pretty sure the guys at PSOWNZ know what theyre talkin about especially seeing how theyre the # 1 source for home brew PS2 progz. I agree that Maxell do stop working after a while. My friend told me so and I found out the hard way also. Haven't had an issue with memorex though

ok riteks used to be the shit! For anyone new to the riteks and I mean within a few months new I'm sorry you haven't had the greatest of luck with them, but B4 all this crappy batch of riteks came about, they where hands down the best media to buy even better then those expensive store sold brands. I never ever ever burnt a coaster at 4x until the crappy G04's came out.

Just a comment on dvd media. Maxell and TDK are top rated but only -R format. Just because a disc proves reliable in one format like -R it does not follow that the same discs are as good in +R and + or - RW.I recently bought Maxell -RW disc from Argos and they turned out to be Ritek discs. Appparenty maxell can't keep up with demand and contract out to Ritek, these disks are supposed to be same dye quality but they definately aren't.Check out www.nomorecoasters.com
