    hello guys
i recently tried to convert a rmvb file into avi using WinAvi 7.7
but once i converted the size of the avi is reduced drastically....i kept the resolution at 770x480
yet the display is horrible.....heavy pixels....
rmvb was 900+ MB while converted avi is only 400+
i chose xViD codec....which one is ideal though??
i dunno wat settings to keep.....can someone please advise?

Hi! You could play around with the codecs to see which fits best, but ZJMedia Mpeg Codec and ZJMedia mp3 encoder might not be bad choices.

    Good luck!

770 is not a good resolution. It isn't even mod4. Probably the rmvb file isn't actually encoded at that resolution. Just resized on playback. You can do the same thing in XviD by setting the PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) accordingly.

If you don't care about size, set XviD to encode at a fixed quant of say 2-3. If you care about size, set the bitrate using the built in bitrate calculator and do 2 passes.

When convert rmvb to avi,you must need a codec for the file.Maybe can try to install a k-lite codec. And i always select codec for this:
    Video:Xvid MPEG4 Codec;Audio:Mpeg Layer-3.I think that is better.
