ok well i have had this problem for a while. i want to install rockbox, but i cant get past the first step of getting the drive number. i type ipodpatcher 0,etc... but not one of them is the ipod. ive tried alot of times to find it but can't get it. The ipod is a 5th gen and itunes says it is in disk mode, so it should work. Right?

Are you sure it says C:\rockbox>

and then you are typing in ipodpatcher?

yes, i am very positive. When i type zero first i get," This is not an ipod, aborting." Every number after that says."Reading partition table from \\.\ physaicalDrive Error reading from disk: The deveice is not ready." I think its in disk mode cause it is a removeable device in MY Computer, and itunes says so.

PS thanks for the quick reply

In iTunes make sure the 'Enable Disk Mode' box is checked off, and close iTunes when trying it. I think the problem may lie elsewhere since you are getting a different error then you should. It should say what it says the first time every time, unless it is your iPod.

That's interesting, could you possibly try a different USB port? Are you using the USB port on the front of your computer? If you are you would be better off using one located on the rear of the machine.

im thinking i dont have a 5.5gen(which i here unmodable at the moment, or so ive heard), but i dont think i have a 5 gen either. Some where in between. Like a 5 1/5 gen maybe, lol i dunno. Mine came with no itunes + ipod updater CD. So I just got itunes 7 from apple .com. So until they have 5.5 gen solution. ill just lay back and enjoy it the way it is.

If there is a 5.5gen soultion could you point me to it?
    cool, thanks for the help.

Well, when i look in MY COMPUTER it has an icon for REmoveable Disk F, and when i open it has four folders Photos, etc.. Itunes updates/syncs too. Ipod wizard doesnt recognize like yours, and other ipod linux/rockbox installers cannot find it either. Is there anything we can do?
