I was just wondering if its possible to take one router, and connect it to another router? some may be asking why i would do this, but the answer is because i have a 4 port router right now, that all slots are full, so i was wondering, if i bought a second router, would i be able to take one port out of the first and connect it to the second router... yes i know, i could by an 8 port router, but that would mean more money, due to buying more cables, im looking at about 100ft.
is not, how exactly would i connect my pc, that has 2 nic cards in it, to share the internet to my laptop?
i think that u would be beter of buying a switch my freind, just a 5 port or 8 port u can pick these up pretty cheap, i have a 8 port swich in my junk box which i picked up 1 year ago for 2 pound, and served me well for 10 months.
Yes, it is possible but I wouldn't use the WAN port on the 2nd router, just plug into the switched ethernet ports. The reason being is the router expects the WAN port to be on a different subnet than the ethernet ports but if you plug straight into those then you bypass that. You could also set it up to bridge though. Unless you already have a 2nd router just do as wdowsing said and put a switch there. Just plug it into one of the routers ethernet ports. That saves you several possible headaches such as each router trying to assign DHCP addresses, multiple PPPoE clients, and other configuration issues with multiple routers.
yes you can. the main would be set to the Gateway mode (the one with the internet plugged into it) and the one connected to itwould be set to Router mode.
