I purchased a trendnet (TW100-S4W1CA) broadband router for my living room. I needed to split my 1 Internet connection into 3 for my computer, xbox, and ps3. Now when I plug in my computer I can't connect to any computers on my network. I can connect to the Internet though. The new router comes up in "network" on my living room computer and when I try to open the router in wants a user name and password. I don't have a password on my windows account so Im not sure what password it wants. Is there a default username and password? I have gone through the manual and got no help. Anyone help?
Routers don't just "work" out of the box. You need to set some minimal settings. The router wants a username and password for it's admin functions. Did you even try the manufacturer's website???? Here's what I got. What is the default username and password for the TW100-S4W1CA? The default username & password for the TW100-S4W1CA are both (blank). There is no username and password set by default.
I never did get the password to work even if it was blank. But I did fail to mention that this is the second router in my line and in order to get it to talk to my other router (so I could see the files being shared on my other computers) I had to move the Internet in cable from the WAN slot to port 2 on the second router.. Now everything seems to be working fine.
I see you got things working, but if you run into problems of daisy chaining routers down the road you'll want to make sure that the routers are assigning IP's from different block entirely. Ie. At my location the IP address of my main router is the typical 192.168.0.1, and the 2nd in the chain is 192.168.1.1. These routers will only assign IP addresses with the same 3-prefix as their own. It's been a while but I believe there is also one other typical setting you have to adjust in order to prevent them from conflicting from each other. I'm betting someone else in here will chime in. Useful knowledge when you're trying to cover a large house with wifi over multiple routers.
