I wish to start this with a question as to whether any of you have read Nicolas Suzor's 2010 article titled "The Role Of The Rule Of Law In Virtual Communities"? Yes, I know that I have just jumped over Lawrence Lessig's writings from 1998 onwards, but there's purpose in that, if you'll allow me some freedom here. As for links, or further explanation, other than what the title is very clearly stating - - - well, how about the links be a little later once we have established whether anyone is even interested in this topic. Plus I am not sure I remember what the rules here are on posting links, even if to '.edu' sites. As for "further explanation" - - - well, that thread title is rather clear, yes? Well, how about a question to answer a question: Do any of you know of an Online Community that follows Ballot Box Rule? Now I have started using the vocabulary Ballot Box Rule because the word 'democracy' makes some folks nervous. And there are other words that could be used, like parliamentary rule, but that also makes some folks nervous. So I sort of decided to start with a kind of new thing for the purpose of explaining that the Online Community Citizens run the show in a given community. Not those fancy words like democracy and parliamentary, but simple plain language, the "Ballot Box". Of course, we would be using some sort of digital ballot box, but I would bet one of you super smart programming wizards could come up with a neat and safe digital ballot box, yes? Yep, I knew you could.
