i wouldn't recommend an iLo dvd04 recoreder to my worst enemy. I purchased mine march 10 of last year didn't open it until may 20 after i got out of the hospital which is why i purchased the thing in the first place so i could have something to watch while i recovered in my bedroom. anyway it wasn't until august that i attempted my first recording. nothing. the timer wouldn't set, the only way i could record something was by hitting the record button. the it started doing the no disc thing. so i contacted iLo that's when they inform me that it doesn't always recognize certain dvd rw or +. so then i spent a fortune trying various brands of dvd's. some it would record then later wouldn't play. iLo replaced it 3 times and it's still a piece of crap. Walmart wouldn't take it back even after the corporate office sent me an email telling me to take it back for an exchange or refund. the electronics manager rudely told me i couldn't have an exchange or refund because it was past warranty even though i told them when i purchased it verses when i opened it, and besides i had an email from corporate saying to take it back. anyway i say run, get something you can rely on.
I've had my DVDR04 for at least a year and a half. I use Maxell DVD+RW 4X. I have use the hack to give me 3 hour recording. I have recorded several TV shows and TV Movies and then reauthored them on my computer. The machine has not worked flawlessly, but for the money I paid for it, my machine was well worth the price. So I guess you must have picked a bitter lemon.
