Run Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) on PS3 Tutorial

i have a 80gb ps3 so which should i choose for the option Allot 10GB to the Other OS" or "Allot 10GB to the PS3 System.

 

after i put the cd in and it booted up the screen split in 3 screens and now i cant see nothing and i also need to kno how 2 take it off

 

i am using through ppope connections .so do i hav to configure the internet setting in linux so that i can download the file rpm -ivh Xautoconfig-0.23-2.ydl.2.ppc.rpm

 

hi can someone tell me how to completely uninstall YDL from the ps3, i don't know how to do it

 

Do a full format of your PS3.

 

but i got a lot of stuff on there that i want to keep and nothing to put it on...no other way i can do it without losing my stuff?

I think i messed up really badley. When i wanted to instal the bootloader, it showed only hte .bld one, not the .self one . So i installed it, and then it said to go to system menu, and change the defoult os to other os, and so i did.
When i start my PS3, a black screen shows and 2 penguins and a lot of long writing. And when i try to put in the cd image, it just goes blank and dosen't do much. PLzzzzzzzzzz help me man.

Try putting the install disc in before you switch to the other os.

 

Just hold down your power button for a long time. It will reset to your ps3 menu.

 

Yeah, i figured that out in a while, but i still can't instal the boot loader, WTF? it can see the damn .bld file, but can't see the .self danggg........... I almost messed up my sistem tring to install this.

 

Where did you get the file from? Try downloading and burning this one.

When I installed I didn't need a separate anything, everything was burned on the one DVD.

 

dam, now i'm dowloading 4 disk images. by the way, do u have to re-instal linux if u want 5.0.1?
and i'm downloading 5.0.2, is it for PS3? Cose the rest of them on the title have PS3 written, this one dosen't. Cose i thought that maybe i should just download the 5.0.2, so i can have the newest one.

Just download the one with PS3 written on it. Also I think you can just format the linux partition to get it to work.

 

Yo ppl,,,,, i have another question, i think i installed the boot loader, but all it shows is 2 penguins on black background. And since i have a av TV , i can't tell what it's writing to me. Plz someone help with this step.

I think you press tab till you get to Install YDL and then you click enter.

I deleted Linux from my PS3 as it was kind of useless, plus I don't have a wireless keyboard and mouse lol.

I have used linux now successfully, and its nice, but my tv is SD, so its complete shit on that part.
Can anyone recomand a nice TV cose i was looking for one for a while, and i'm kinda newb at all the HD and other stuff. FYI, i'm only 16, so i dono a lot of shit about all the details.
