I'm sort of new to the burning of iso's so I hope someone can help me. I recently purchased a gamecube. The system was modded with the Viper GC and was flashed with the BCOS bios. Both the viper and the bios are working perfectly. I was able to retreive the .iso and save it on my pc. Now, this is where I'm confused. When saving the .iso to a dvd, am I expected to open the .iso first before saving OR do I save the .iso on the dvd? So far, all I've been able to do is save the .iso unto the dvd. I can't seem to extract the files out of the .iso. Is the viper supposed to play the game as an .iso? My PC is currently running on Windows XP and I have been unable to open the .iso because XP doesn't understand the gc files. Is that suppose to happen or did I just save a bad .iso copy?
Well you cannot open the iso file from windows, it wont recognize any data, you only burn the ISO normally through nero and then that burned DVD is the one that goes in your gamecube and the one that plays. If you decide to burn through alcohol, choose block size 2048, the other spaces in 0, and the other boxes unchecked. GL hoped it helped
OKay...I've got a new problem. Now, whenever I attempt to run a backup, I get a message saying: Exception (ISI)occured!, followed by 10 rows of letters and numbers. What on earth is that?!?!
Ok what backup did you burn?? what was the size of it, with what program did you burn it, at what speed did you burn it and what disc did you use? he have to know this info maybe it was a burning problem or a problem of the cube or the backup is corrupted, plz provide this info, although you can try googling the error and see what you can get.
Hey paztelu, when you asked what backup did you burn? Are you trying to find out what game he was trying to backup? Does that really matter? Shouldn't all games have the same process? My last question is, what type of DVD+R or mini DVD would you recommend? I'm using GCOS to rip the game but cobra to load it. The ripping does seem to work, but the cobra is unwilling to play it. I would swap using a DVD+R (I think it’s a Sony brand not really sure) and the Game Cube not cobra would tell me it had a problem reading the disk. Does having a specific DVD make that much of a different? I ask that because my PS2 backups are all DVDs that were on sale, and I never had problems. Oh before I forget I burned it at 2.4x.
Srry I was half sleep when I wrote that, but the thing is that some .iso may come corrupted and they some times need to be fixed in block size+ plus they need to have an exact size which I think is 1.35GB, but because your backing it up we may discard that possibility, also media is very important in order to assure compatibility and 0 DRE(disc read errors) so to ensure that you would have no trouble I recommend Ritek Mini DVD'S G04, or PRODISC S03 you can buy them at www.supermediastore.com, I you have the case for a full DVD, Ill recommend you a SONY DVD-R but still here is a media compatibility list: http://modthatcube.ngcdev.com/content/media.htm Be carefull if your having problems with the gamecube telling you it can not read the disk it is a sign that your having media problems, but if they are true SONY I dont see why, but here is a good thread where a Solution to DRE is discussed http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/187029 Hope it help
I normally just rip my ISO and stream it with PSO and Phoenix to see if it works first. If the game shows up then I know it is working, and can burn it from there.Media issues depend on the GC to be honest so media tests should be used for everyone I think. It actually differs depending on the laser of the GC,because they are all set to different values and read differently. What I am trying to say is a media chart isn't always compatible with every GC,just something to go by.Pick a media and if it works stick with it,because some GC drives can be picky just like the Xbox. Some drives can read everything, but then again some are really annoying trying to find the right media for it.
Thank you I'll try that. Just one quick thing, the GameCube only says that with the copy, never with the originals. So I'm hoping its because I'm using a crappy Dvd.
Yeah it most likely is caused by media, but then again it can come from the rip also.Your best bet is to make sure you have a good rip of the game, and to use quality media.Another thing is to make sure you don't use the wipe garbage file option. As paztelu mentions your ISO should be 1.35Gig in size,if it is smaller than this then you are using the wipe garbage file process which shouldn't be done.If it is smaller than 1.35Gig then there is a fix for it called Wipe GCM Fixer or Reloc to fix the image to 1.35Gig in size.It doesn't hurt to add this in,but paztelu pretty much added that in.
Hey this is great, all these smart people trying to help me, and just to think, I used to beat up computer nerds. Na just joking. So you’re telling me if it is smaller then 1.35 the game will not work. Now you got me wondering. When I get home I'll check it out. Again thank you both.
