    This will help you

This is what to do if you are having trouble backing up your movies:

Here is the free way of making perfect backups:

    1) DVDFab Decrypter - this wil break the movies encryption while ripping the movie to your HDD

    http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

    2) VobBlanker - Not always needed, but it will get rid of any protection that DVDFD left behind. VobBlanker also allows you to blank, replace, cut and strip titles.

    http://www.jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

    3) DVDShrink - this will allow you to compress the movie to fit onto a blank DVD-5 disc. Select your output as an ISO image

    http://filehippo.com/download_dvdshrink/

    4) Imgburn - the best free burner around

    http://www.imgburn.com/

    Here are some guides:

    http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/article_vobblanker_page1.html VobBlanker guide

    The other free option:

RipIt4Me. I do not know anything about ripit4me so I will leave you with the excellent guide by arniebear. You can also download RipIt4Me from the same link.

    The other way $$$$$

Anydvd works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie. All you have to do is start up anydvd and continue using your normal compression engine, whether it's shrink, recode or clonedvd, It's that easy.

Before you pay for this excellent program you have a 21 day trial

What else to do to insure good quality back ups:

    1) Update your dvdwriters firmware

    2) Invest in good quality media Taiyo Yuden and Verbatims are best. Also look out for Maxell,Sony,Fuji, MIJ's (made in Japan) these are also extremely good blank media.

    3) Burn @4x is a good place to start

Using AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter the movie stopped ripping around 80% done. Last time that happened the disc was actually scratch, so I searched here and found the new version of AnyDVD should work. Clicked update on AnyDVD... I tried ripping again and it works.

I know a lot of people don't like to pay for AnyDVD and use the freeware alternatives, but for me AnyDVD is worth a lot more money that what I paid for. I use AnyDVD (background), rip with DVD Decrypter to HD, shrink with Shrink, (I usually have several discs to do at once so I use multishrink), and then i burn them all with Nero

Download AnyDVD 6.0.4.5 & DVDShrink. This does the trick on all my DVDs.. Never have a problem. Although with the movie "RV" you need to have the lastest version of AnyDVD (6.0.4.5). It has added support for new versions of the Sony Arccos protection, which I believe is in "RV".

    klinger ,
If you are looking for a ripper only and no decryption then use DVDDecrypter and set it up as per Slysofts recommendation which is below:

Note: To use DVDDecrypter with AnyDVD set I/O Model to SPTI or ElbyCDIO. Set CSS Cracking method to none. Disable checking for structure protection.

    billyp31,
There are various ways to back this movie up. All of them use the newest versions of the programs.

    1. Ripit4Me ( rip to HD and then process w/ Shrink or whatever program you use)

    2. DVDFab Decrypter ( rip to HD) and then use VobBlanker( corrects structural problems) and then use Shrink

    3. AnyDVD ( use the ripper function and rip the DVD to HD ) this program is not free but it has a fully functional 21 day trial offer

There are other ways to do this movie but the above are what the majority use. Take which ever way you want to do it and try that method. Any Problems please post back.
